The youngest child of Franklin and Mary Storm, and in many ways the black sheep of the family. Whilst his parents and his sister displayed amazing intellectual prowess Johnny preferred to spend his time on other less lofty pursuits. Overshadowed in his family by his [[Susan Storm|older sister]], the apple of her father's eye, Johnny sought attention where he could get it, from friends, their parents, anyone. This means that Johnny is outwardly very charismatic. In fact one may go so far as to say that he has a need to be the center of attention.

When Johnny was 5 the family, went on a road trip traveling to NY, where Franklin had set up his think tank, Baxter Research Group. Although he claims that he doesn't really remember anything from this period, he does remember. He remembers the only time where the family seemed to work. Everyone seemed happy. He remembers the baseball game that their father took them too. And although disdainful of baseball as a slow and boring sport, his "physicality" and draw to sports, perhaps, stems from this captured moment of bliss. And, well, the extreme sports and recklessness were just a way of attracting attention from a family that never seemed to be able to focus on anyone but themselves. In that vein, Johnny's mother left to pursue her career when he was 6, and in someway this may have fueled his obsession with cars and speed: he’s trying to run and catch up.

After their mother left, their father involved himself deeper in work, and to a degree Sue, became a surrogate parent, but more willing to yield to his taste for adventure--but nonetheless Sue was forced to act much older than her age should have demanded. Finally having attention from someone delighted the young Johnny--and he became "the performer" in an effort to always keep her smiling. This positive reaction to his antics further cemented his need to be the centre of attention.

When he and Sue finally found out that she was a mutant he was excited. Part of him expected that he too would get some superpowers, and he could live out his dream of being a superhero. The other part was purely focused on the amount of mischief that an invisible accomplice could achieve.

After the return of [[Arthur Molekevic|Molekevic]], an event that Johnny remained unconscious for most of (much to his chagrin), his father decided to enroll the two children in a variety of self-defense and protection programs. Johnny loved this more physical approach that his father was showing, and lapped up these classes eager to show that he too could excel at something.
 +
 +
However, with his father returning to work, and Sue absorbed in her powers and school, Johnny once again found himself withdrawing feeling lonely and isolated from them. Where they had science to bond over, Johnny didn’t, and could not really bond with them over the dull sport of baseball. Realizing what was happening, his father sent him back to California, where his grandparents could provide the family, stability and attention that he craved. Although his mischief and thrill seeking behavior continued, his charismatic and charming nature returned. He was able to get his thrill seeking from surfing and sports and school and he flourished in the sun. California suited him.

Although he likes to tell others that the emergence of his powers was due to a fiery scenario (explosions, born of flame, sometimes even meteors feature in his stories) the truth was it happened rather sedately at his grandparents’ house. It was the Fourth of July, and Johnny, ever the patriot, was "testing" fireworks. As he light the match, the flame seemed to slowly spread over his arm. He began waving his arm, setting off the firework, and after a period of running around panicked, he realized he wasn't burning himself. But he had attracted the attention of his grandmother, who doused him. And began to lecture him about fire safety--until she realized that he wasn't hurt at all.

His high school years weren’t filled with studies, rather sports, engines and a group of friends as crazy as he was. It was during this time that his aptitude and love for vehicles, especially driving them grew. His grandfather and him were able to share in a passion for cars, and although it was more of classic car vs anything that goes fast and makes a lot of noise, Johnny finally found a kindred spirit and a father figure he could relate to. The wealth of his grandfather afforded him a broad leeway when it came to his speed ambitions, both in terms of the building, and in silencing any “legal” repercussions. It was thanks to his grandparents once again that he didn’t turn out to be an excessively spoiled trust fund kid. They forced him into team sports and to train on his powers. Discipline and training was a topic where there would be no leeway, no jokes. This parental focus and training proved fruitful. Johnny became the Running Back for his high school team, and perhaps more importantly he was finally able to discover and control that ability that he’d always claimed he had: flight…although, of course, in his typical explosive fashion.

Graduating from high school Johnny was admitted to UCLA, where he is currently a sophomore. Although Johnny isn’t really focused on academics, rather enjoying his time partying, being the second string Running Back of the UCLA Bruins, the UCLA racing team peaked his interest. The supervisor professor saw his love and passionate for automotive vehicles and is trying to convince him to take it up as a career.

Johnny can surround himself in fiery plasma, without damage to himself. He can also absorb fire/plasma without any damage. Through his flames he can generate thrust and fly. His current cruising speed is a little over 120 mph, but he can accelerate to faster and Johnny’s always trying to push himself to fly as fast as possible. Apart from surrounding himself in flames Johnny can launch fire projectiles, such as fireballs, or even make fire “shapes”, though these require much more focus to do and maintain.

 +
With his flame on he can vaporize projectiles, anything with a lower energy output than his surrounding flames doesn't affect him. The higher the energy of his surrounding plasma the lower the length of time he can “burn” for. He can dramatically increase the output level to what he calls "Nova Flames", which has a currently unknown level of heat, but has very little control of this at the moment and just tends to burn himself fairly rapidly, and which requires him to recuperate for 12 hours or so.
 +
 +
The flames require oxygen to burn, and removing the oxygen from the environment means that Johnny can’t use his powers. Water or flame retardant has the same effect, though he can still burn it off by increasing his heat, and eventually relight himself. Johnny's energy comes from his own internal fusion. So despite his astounding appetite he still doesn't really put on weight. In the same vein, he can't really use his powers well if he isn't fed and nourished…he's definitely not a morning person.

Biography

Childhood

The youngest child of Franklin and Mary Storm, and in many ways the black sheep of the family. Whilst his parents and his sister displayed amazing intellectual prowess Johnny preferred to spend his time on other less lofty pursuits. Overshadowed in his family by his older sister, the apple of her father's eye, Johnny sought attention where he could get it, from friends, their parents, anyone.

After the return of Molekevic, an event that Johnny remained unconscious for most of (much to his chagrin), his father decided to enroll the two children in a variety of self-defense and protection programs.
