Talk:Main Page
We need a summary here of what Xproject is, and a very basic and boring and short history of the game, to provide a jumping off point for readers and editors. --Frito 15:48, 11 June 2006 (EDT)
Main Page info
Just testing out the new login and format to this thing...
I'm thinking something a bit more detailed than exists in the webpage atm, since the other is all very Fight Club and all (you must experience XP to know what it is) but isn't exactly informative. *grins* Definitely something everyone should have the chance to contribute too - I know Dex is thinking of little trivia type notes as appear on a regular Wiki, so maybe give people the chance to put in quotes/thoughts/etc as a part of the main page?
The main thing, I think, with this whole thing, is to have fun as well. If we're clearly enjoying the Wiki (and the game) it's more likely to get people interested and perhaps joining. So little fun things like the trivia links (eg: The plot "Buy Now: Pay Later" (otherwise known as the Charlie plot) was based on a series of songs by Australian band, The Whitlams) could work rather well towards that.
And yes, this would be me checking the linking as well. ;) --Rossi
I like the trivia idea - eventually we'll have the ability to do a featured article, and all kinds of other REALLY neat stuff. (I am seriously geeking all over this thing. You have NO IDEA.) - archive all those memes, all the icons, graphics made for the game, all of that. The whole "Juggernaut as Urban Legend" thing - archivable. All the pre-history of the game that is implied - archivable.
By the way - up on the toolbar for these pages, there's a link that looks like a squiggle. (second from the right) - it puts your signature (username and a time stamp), though when you click it all it'll look like is a couple of dashes.
I think eventually the wiki front page will get turned into something like this - The Kingdom of Loathing Wiki - but that's a long way off. --Frito 16:06, 21 June 2006 (EDT)
- grins* Hey, I'm bouncing with impatience to get some content on these pages too, although it makes perfect sense why we're waiting. And hell yeah with the meme etc links - the memes especially add so much to the characterisation, although we'll have to upload content manually since XPP is a locked comm. Still, it'd give people a chance to edit as well.
And this is going to sound really lame, but I can't see the toolbar you're talking about. There's the toolbox (no squiggle links) but no toolbar. Mac thing, I'm thinking, since I don't get the LJ toolbar either (not entirely a bad thing since gah the trouble it gave me yesterday, posting from work). --Rossi
Ah. It might be a java thing then - it should be right above the edit box here, with buttons for bold, italics, and a few other things. Blast. It's a neat feature - but no big for me to go back and tag your entries with the clickylink to your user page.

Stupid Bill Gates. ;)--Rossi 15:38, 10 July 2006 (EDT)
Looking at the additions... very shiny, folks. And again, if things needed changing, that's relatively simple. Thing to remember, I guess, is that things can be edited.
The other thing to remember is that our priority is getting the month summaries done and to not let ourselves get distracted by the shiny. *raises hand guiltily* I'm going to tackle as much as I can over the next month, basically using the free wireless at the Eaton Centre during my lunch hour to get as many months done as fast as I can. If anyone knows of anyone at a loose end game-wise, hit them up into taking a month - get them to email me or Dex (or tell us and we'll email them!) and we'll send them the 'how-to' guide. Even if it's just one month.

Last night's changes are pretty much the end of my mad rush of shiny (for now) until we get some more content - the minute we get those summaries up, we're going to explode with Wanted Pages though, because I'm going to start tagging while on vacation. Tag-splosion. Gives people a list of what to work on if the summaries scare them. More on summaries on the wishlist.--Frito 10:12, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
- nods* Oh, definitely. Like I've said elsewhere, Dex is planning to get 2003 and 2004 up in the next month. 2003 is done, 2004 is three months' short of being done. Once those are up, people can start adding their bits, as long as we don't lose our summary team in the meantime. *wry* I'm not unemployed any more and the days when I could do three months in a week are sort of over. Besides, 2005 is _huge_. Wonder if we can get Alicia to tackle some of the months where her plots are the big thing? --Rossi 10:44, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
