Energy Projection is a term used to describe mutant powers that allow a mutant to generate a form of non- psionic energy and emit it for various effects. This energy is often, but not always, electromagnetic in nature.

What does an energy projector do?
In the simplest terms, the cells of an energy projector are adapted to store or generate amounts of energy vastly beyond normal human cellular limits, and discharge that energy through some stimuli, usually but not always under conscious control.
All cells have the capacity to store energy chemically, regulated by the mitochondria within the cells. In certain mutant cells, those mitochondria are specially adapted to store immense amounts of energy, converting it into chemical energy and back into either its original form or another form of radiant energy. Some mutants such as Alison Blaire absorb one form of energy such as sound, and release it as another, in Alison's case visible light. Others absorb energy from sunlight, store it, and release it in varying forms. Still others generate their own immense stores of energy, and require a high amount of caloric intake to fuel their powers. Jubilation Lee is an example of this type of energy projector.
Because of this unique biochemistry, energy projectors often have unusual blood types that can make medical care complicated.
What types of energy projectors are there?
Most energy projectors emit energy along the electromagnetic spectrum, which includes visible light, varying forms of radiation, and electromagnetic energy characterized by lightning-like discharges. Still others emit an unclassified form of energy that actually converts matter into highly energized plasma that they can direct. Note: Plasma is a form of matter, not energy, and as such, a mutant whose powers express themselves as a plasma discharge would find them inoperable in a vacuum.
