Biography

Childhood

The second child of two journalists, one a Northern Irish news anchor, the other an American Pullitzer winner, Frank grew up in a house that was on the surface perfectly normal- a white picket fence, a dog, everything you could reasonably want. In reality, his mother drank and his parents’ marriage was slowly drifting apart. Frank and his older brother grew up prickly and self-reliant, because there was no real alternative. His future from there seemed easy to predict- a decent college grade, a job in a newspaper somewhere, a loveless marriage and a life of quiet mediocrity. Nature, however, had other plans.

On Frank’s fifteenth birthday, he manifested as a mutant. This turned out to be the death knell for his parents’ marriage, driving his mother to abandon the family and cut all contact with them. His school career further suffered as his friends drifted away, eager to avoid the stigma of being friends with a mutant. Frank responded by acting out, both in class and at home. In the end, his father enrolled him in Xavier’s.

Living At The X-Mansion

Frank has been adjusting slowly to life at the mansion- his natural prickliness and awkwardness left him a little isolated at first, but he's begun making friends (including Topaz, to their mutual surprise, and his suitemate Clinton Barton). He's attracted Angelo Espinosa's attention by showing interest in X-Corps and also trying to beat up the wall- he's now working there as an intern on weekends. His anger issues have also garnered the interest of Angelica Jones, who's made him promise to come see her should he ever feel compelled to hit something again.

Things went fairly well for Frank until June 2013, when he was accidentally caught up in Topaz's mental breakdown and ended up having his emotions drained. The effect was temporary, but the damage was done. He confronted Topaz about it, and the resulting shouting match led to a several-month estrangement. Not long after that Frank, along with the rest of the New Mutants, fell victim to the field trip curse when a cave came to life and tried to kill them all. Following a fight with Angelo (in which Frank punched the man), Frank went home, needing to get away from the mansion for a while.

He returned in January 2014, finally making amends with Topaz - and then kissing her, which caused quite the stir. After a few more days a soul-searching talk with Madelyne Pryor, Frank and Topaz finally sorted themselves out, agreeing that they liked each other and even going on a date.

Powers

Frank is a floramorph- he can transform his body into living plant matter. In his case, wood. Hold off with the erection jokes please, he’s heard them all already. When Frank has turned, he’s a lot tougher then he is normally- his nerves don’t work the same way, so his pain tolerance is a lot higher. He’s also a lot harder to damage due to the higher density of his wood form, and his endurance is a lot better, although he can’t quite figure out why.

Equipment

None, BUT HIS WITTY RETORTS!

Trivia

Frank is nigh-pathologically obsessed with the works of Hunter S. Thompson. He's only slightly less fascinated by coffee and cars.
