Apocalypse

Born in Central Africa, the man who would come to be known as Apocalypse sought to ensure mutant supremacy by gathering other powerful mutants to his side and waging a campaign of terror against humanity with his invasion of Manhattan. Imprisoned by SHIELD after his failed attempt to conquer New York, Apocalypse was broken out of prison by the Dark Riders, and in seeking to regain his strength, apparently met his death by decapitation at the hands (or rather, wings) of Jay Guthrie.

It has been revealed, however, that the Apocalypse that was beheaded was a clone created by Nathaniel Essex, and the real Apocalypse is alive and well, plotting his next move.
