Jonothon Starsmore: Slightly rebellious son of middle-class English parents, Jono managed his mutant powers with minimal issues until the Great Mutant Headache of X2. The pain caused him to lose control of his psionic energies, blowing a hole in his chest and destroying the lower part of his face. Incredibly, he survived, ultimately arriving at Xavier's to learn control of the blasts. Control wasn't forthcoming, but the embittered loner found love instead, in the form of Paige Guthrie. A further powers accident cost him his entire body, until a daring plan by the genius Forge (who harboured his own feelings for Paige), enabled him to fully reconstruct himself. The bliss of a whole body was not to be, and an encounter with Kevin Ford cost him that hard-won form. Eventually he was able to partially rebuild himself, and he and Paige returned from Muir Island Research Facility, Paige to resume her work in the medlab, Jono to resume teaching Music. The rigors of the school - and the team's presence there - proved too much, and after several months Jono decided to try life outside, moving into an apartment in Salem Center. He continues to teach at the school, and he and Paige visit each other often.
At first glance, Jono is a telepath, although his mutation is a maladaptive one. His body produces psionic energy in such a manner that it emerges as a destructive energy force, destroying most of his torso and jaw. His mutation also allows for him to survive without food, water, or oxygen. After the destruction of his original physical body, Jono's consciousness persisted as a matrix of coherent psionic energy, that over time and through the help of Forge and Paige, he was able to reform into a mimicry of his original physical body. After an accident with Kevin Ford and subsequent recovery, Jono's body is back to an incomplete, damaged state. The main expressions of Jono's power are telepathic communication, and on occasion release of the psionic energy inside him for destructive effects. When he overexerts his powers, his 'grip' on his physical body slips, and cracks appear.
