His apparent ability to shrug off even the hardest tackle led to suspicions he was taking steroids and his refusal to take a drug test (for fear he'd be discovered as a mutant) lost him his scholarship and wound up with him leaving school to become an itinerant bar tender and bouncer while he searched for his mother's family. When he heard of a place in Westchester County that helped mutants, he decided to try his luck. His cocky attitude, poor sense of empathy and confused sexuality won him few friends and after an incident in which he suggested hazing new (blind) student [[Matt Murdock]], he quietly left the school over the summer, hitting the road again.
