Alkali Lake is a man-made lake created by the Alkali Hydroelectric Dam in northern British Columbia, although its exact location is unknown and not listed on most maps. In actuality, the dam ceased providing power to the local electric grids in the mid-1970s, and was later used as a covert base for military research.
One of these projects was the infamous Weapon X project, which was revisited in 2003 when William Stryker abducted a number of staff and students from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters to his facility inside the dam, as well as creating a replica of Cerebro.
The Alkali Lake dam was destroyed in 2003, when Jean Grey unleashed a telekinetic backlash that structurally weakened the dam enough to eventually collapse under the water pressure of the lake. The resulting flooding caused significant environmental damage and was rendered unusable by the disaster.
