"Why Mr Richards, you know all the right things to say to sweet talk a lady don't you," Sue replied with a friendly grin saluting Reed with her beer bottle, "It's hard to find someone, even around here, who you can talk to about more than one thing. Everyone is an expert in their fields and has no interest in anything else. It's rare to find a true Polymath here, even if you do tend to come down a little biased on theoretical knowledge and miss what's right in front of you." she noted as she flashed Reed an impish grin.

“Does taking care of yourself have to be part of your job before you will do it?” She demanded, resisting the urge to slap the phone of out Haller’s hands when he continued to ignore her. “I’m sorry I let this go on for so long without at least trying to help, and maybe I’m the last person in this place that has the right to lecture you about mental health. But I saw what happened with your powers. How are you going to do your all-important job if you can’t be relied on to use them? What if I wasn’t there? Would you have had Jean burn a hole through the girl’s--?”

"Without a solid theory, you can't practice good science," he protested with a grin. "I'm fairly certain that's a fact. -- no, I KNOW that's a fact. You can't trick science with your pretty face, Ms. Storm. You have to look at the foundation and build from that."

Abruptly cutting herself off, Rachel swallowed, carding fingers roughly through messy hair. For a brief moment in time, the façade wavered, long-hidden weariness showing in the curve of her neck and slack shoulders, in plain sight for him to see – If he took enough care to look. With a deep breath, she collected herself and fixed a steely gaze on his phone in lieu of having to bear his dispassionate face. “Are you going to let that hole in your head consume you?”

"Oh, it's so on," Sue span on the spot to face Reed, "While you and your precious theory are rebuilding science from the basics those of us who have a more....practical approach would have already looked at the problem and constructed a device to deal with it. You can explain it later but we'd already have figured it out and how to use it." She grinned teasingly at him, "you can always come along and fill in the gaps later." she teased sticking her tongue out at Reed. "And I'll have you know that this pretty face has fooled plenty of science before, you didn't think it's scientifically possible to look this good do you?" Her smile lost the teasing quality, "but thank you for the compliment. If Reed Richards notices then I must be doing something right."

Something wavered behind Haller's eyes. For just an instant it seemed like the dam would finally crumble. There, in the darkness of the early morning, the space between them teetered on the edge of denial and acceptance.

"How could I not? You're gorgeous," he said, confused. Did she think he didn't see it?

And then it passed.

Oh wow, how did they end up here, "Reed, you're probably the smartest person I've ever met, but you're also probably the most oblivious person I've ever met. I've literally seen you miss every sign that a woman liked you, It's hard to know what you think about other people," she noted giving him a wry smile, she knew from experience watching other people and her own. "Besides, you know sometimes it's nice to be told if someone finds you attractive. Compliments are always welcome."

The door behind Rachel opened, and the girl was suddenly lifted off her feet and pushed back -- carried by a wave of telekinesis as inexorably as a body being washed out by the tide. It set her down beyond the threshold, and as her feet returned to the floor the door swung closed and locked behind her with a solid, final click.

About fifteen minutes, he interrupted Sue mid-sentence. "Wait -- what signs have I missed? What woman?" He groaned. "It's not Kat the intern, is it? She does seem overly concerned about my lab coat...."

"Oh, so now your powers work!" Rachel snarled, expression ugly and face flushed a mottled red as she raised a telekinetically charged fist at the door, ready to shatter the offending wood into pieces so that some sense could be throttled into her adopted brother.

"Kat, and Jenny from accounting, and Lisa from the next lab, even Robert from security, need I go on?" Sue smirked at Reed, "for someone who's been here for such a short time you've amassed quite a following Mr Richards," she teased."

Moment of Awesome - Rachel Kinross-Dayspring/Revenant: Following their escape from a parasite on the astral plane, Rachel tries to check in with David Haller and discovers he's less than amenable.

Something wavered behind Haller's eyes. For just an instant it seemed like the dam would finally crumble. There, in the darkness of the early morning, the space between them teetered on the edge of denial and acceptance.

And then it passed.

The last thing she saw was Haller, turning away.

"Oh, so now your powers work!" Rachel snarled, expression ugly and face flushed a mottled red as she raised a telekinetically charged fist at the door, ready to shatter the offending wood into pieces so that some sense could be throttled into her adopted brother.

It never connected.

The redhead dropped her arm limply to her side, destruction aborted as the violent rage left her in a rush as rapidly as it had come. Heartache welled up in its place, for both him and for herself. In the end, her own hurt won, too easily convinced that she was no longer wanted. Gathering fatigue and the physical pain in her chest to ward off tears, Rachel left, expression eerily blank. If Haller wanted to drown in himself, she was not going to stick around to watch it happen.

How funny it was that the people you loved and relied on the most could cut you to the quick the easiest and in the most painful ways.
