Moment of Awesome - Miles Morales/Spiderman: After a night of vigilante justice, Miles comes home to find his boyfriend Bobby Drake has a suggestion.
"Crime should totally sleep, it doesn't know what it's missing out on," Bobby said, placing an arm around Miles' shoulder and rubbing it gently. "Sleep is awesome." He stifled a yawn and realized that he'd better stop thinking about sleep or else he'd be falling right back into slumber himself. "And, uh, you know what else is awesome..." Brilliant segue, he thought to himself, though the thought of attending school and moving in with Miles was still pretty awesome, awkward shifts in conversation aside. There were a few ways to answer that question, but in his fatigued state, Miles doubted his ability to follow through on the most fun one. "What's that?" he asked instead. "This..." Bobby said, reaching down with his free hand into his pants pocket for - wait, nope, it's not in there. "Um... this is..." He moved his hand to the other pocket, which was also empty. What the fudge. "...is..." That's when he remembered he was wearing a hoodie, phew. Bobby's hand slid into the pouch and withdrew the only-slightly-crumpled brochure of the school he'd been checking out earlier today. He held it aloft for Miles to see, shaking it back and forth a little for dramatic effect. "This is partly why I came here today, also to see you of course but to see this place and to check it out." Miles groaned as he pulled himself into a sitting position so he could read the folded pamphlet. His eyes widened and his smile grew as the implications became clear to him. "You're looking at a school in the city? For reals?" "For reals, my man." Bobby grinned as he saw Miles' face light up. "I mean, I dunno if they'll have me, and then I have to apply for a loan and shit, there's still a lot to figure out, but yeah. I wanna do it." He paused and realized that it wasn't just all about him, exactly. "If you think it's a good idea, that is. Which, hey, just springin' it on you now so you don't have to answer right away, but now you know, right?" The most appropriate reaction, Miles felt, was to pull Bobby in for a kiss. He was still smiling brightly when he pulled away several moments later. "You don't need my permission. But of course I think it's a great idea! There's more to life than Five Guys. Think of all the burgers you'll be able to buy yourself with that CPA money. Assuming that's still what you're going for?" "Burgers and fries," Bobby clarified after their kiss. "And yeah, it is. It's... I dunno how to say it." He thought for a beat or two before coming up with the words. "It's... I can do it, you know? It's something I'm good at. And that's a good feeling, because I'm not good at a lot of stuff, so." He put up his hand to preempt any arguments from his boyfriend. "Not beating myself up, I promise, but it's cool to find that, to find something that works." Another moment passed before he added: "I mean, we work, ohmygod, don't get me wrong, just with work and shit I mean, seriously." "No, yeah, I get it," Miles answered. He had always been good at school, but finding something he actually enjoyed and wanted to dedicate himself to was something entirely else. That Bobby had finally found that same passion instantly washed away all the week's tension and exhaustion, and Miles's smile was so bright, it practically luminesced. "This is really super, querido. Are you gonna commute from Westchester, though? All the way to the city every day." "Well, that's the thing. I was thinking that, y'know. I'd find a place to live here. In the city." He looked down and traced random patterns into the blanket. "Maybe with someone I know, if they wanted to?" Bobby looked back up at Miles, one eyebrow slightly arched. He didn't want to come between his boyfriend and his best friend, but it'd be pretty dope if they could live together. "I totally understand if that's not possible though, but I'd be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind." It wasn't so revolutionary a suggestion, seeing as they'd lived together at the mansion for years already, and Bobby crashed here pretty often. Most importantly, Miles was growing tired of nights he had to sleep alone. Nothing worse than a night out spidering and having to come home to a cold, empty bed. "I'd have to talk with Ganks about it first," he said, "But hell yeah. There's plenty of space here, and you're here so much, anyway." "I am, that's true, but I do pay for my rent in Five Guys food." Which reminded him that he hadn't brought any with him this time, since he hadn't been working. "I... didn't bring any this time, but I will totally continue to do so once - if - I'm allowed to live here. It'll be, like, a bribe or a tip or something." With Warren footing all the bills, there wasn't a need for anything out-of-pocket from Bobby. They would have to reconfigure their chore wheel, though. Less bathroom duty alone might make Ganke say yes to another roommate, Miles thought. "I accept your offer," Miles said as he settled back down into bed. "We can talk to Ganks in the morning. Once he has his coffee, he's easily suggestible. It's how I got him to watch Deep Space 9 all the way through." |
