Biography
Born in 1996, Rick Jones grew up an orphan and was in various foster homes throughout the southwest, which he ultimately ran away from at 15. He ended up on the testing site of Bruce Banner’s Gamma Bomb, unaware that it was a true bomb was going off, thinking the site was abandoned. Banner went out to warn Rick, thinking the bomb countdown was delayed. Banner managed to throw Rick into a trench when the bomb went off, but it resulted in Banner turning into the Hulk. Rick felt responsible for the Hulk and Bruce so, despite being a teenager, he travelled with both for a long time. He often utilized his powers, which emerged after the Gamma Bomb, to be able to track Hulk’s gamma signature. An aspiring musician, Rick often busked while the two were on the road. Banner was able to convince Rick that he would be okay and to finish school and start his own life after he was recruited by the Avengers. Rick started an independent music career in the Reno/Las Vegas area, where he met Marlo Chandler and the two started a relationship. After playing a show in New York, reunited with Bruce. Rick managed to talk his way into a position on the Avengers social media team, mostly to keep an eye on Bruce while still making music and writing poetry on the side. Rick fields the social media informants and organization the Avengers get. He also runs the official Captain America twitter. Rick generally splits his time between New York with the Avengers, and Reno where he lives with his fiancé Marlo. He has two albums on Spotify, popular with the TikTok teenager crowd.
In 2024, on behalf of Bruce Banner, Rick assisted the in investigating excessive gamma radiation in Colorado. Using his powers, Rick was able to track the radiation to the empty grave of Del Frye. Spectrum, Rogue, Emplate were able to contain the radiation. Rick was then able to track Del Frye's the radiation signature to a black-ops base. Inside, the X-Men found Del Frye alive but in a sort of stasis tube. Rick got Del out out the tube and helped the X-Men get the teenager out of the facility.
Powers/Abilities
Rick’s power manifested shortly after being caught in the Gamma Bomb. Rick is able to track ionizing energy signatures. He has an easiest time with gamma radiation, though he has used his powers on occasion to track Thor’s energy signature. It is not a power he has done much to train. His eyes turn green when he tracks gamma radiation.
