Details
Following the rescue of several young mutants by X-Factor, X-Force was called in to investigate a series of sigils marked on their skin which seemed to stop their powers. Their researches led to Clan Akkaba, a secret cult of magically active humans and mutants, who worship a deity they call ‘The Son of the Morning Fire’ and seek to bring him back into the world. The group apparently had resources - their mutant-trafficking operation was international and they had set up a compound in North Africa for their rituals. The X-Men broke up that particular group (but not before they had summoned an inter-dimensional king-in-waiting who was known as Genesis by his people), but when X-Force passed on information of another group in Eastern Europe, the X-Men arrived too late - the group had been slaughtered by the Marauders, sent by Nathaniel Essex under the leadership of Malice to gather Clan Akkaba's information on someone called En-Sabeh-Nur, an immortal mutant who threatened the world and whom Essex believed could only be defeated by his son, Adam. The connection between Clan Akkaba and En-Sabeh-Nur at this point is unknown. Nor is what the cult's response will be to the murder of their colleagues.
