Plot Summary
Marie gets a page of undecipherable words and pictures from Meridian, though she’s had no contact with her family or anyone there since the army experimented on her. Taking the letter to Nathan, he helps decipher some of the text, which suspiciously sound like prophecies. Deciding that she needs to go home to investigate, Marie emails Logan and gets him to go with her, just in case it’s some kind of trap.
While traveling to Meridian, Logan points out that Marie didn’t think through the trip and isn’t prepared at all for what might be ahead. The reunion starts off well until Marie realizes her parents knew she was coming. They drop on bombshell on her – they adopted her when a mysterious woman brought her to their door seventeen years before. They then tell her that same woman came by earlier and told them that Marie would be coming for a visit. Collapsing from the stress, Marie spots a handkerchief on the floor. Logan uses it to track Irene. When they find her, Irene is far from surprised and has a few choice words for them. Irene’s words eventually enrage Logan, but Marie stops him from attacking her. In the brief scuffle, Irene disappears, leaving Marie with the diary.
While in Mississippi, Marie visited Cody before returning to Westchester. The day she got back, Marie took the diary to show Doug, hoping he would be able to help her make sense of it. He realizes they could benefit from Marie-Ange’s expertise, despite the awkwardness of involving his ex-girlfriend. They discover that some of the prophecies the book contains imply that there are more diaries in existence and that other people are after them.
