Thaddeus Ross’ career as an Army officer had been impeccable - a graduate of West Point, skilled in tactical analysis that was honed by years of command and a variety of schooling at the Army War College and similar. His promotions came like clockwork, and despite being a severe and exacting personality, he even managed to navigate the political gamesmanship required for advancement to ‘flag’ rank.
