He sees primarily mutant children and adolescents, but also has counseled families who have mutant relatives. He divided his time between SCCS, and Xavier's and occasionally consulted at mental hospitals across the country. He is considered an expert in working with mutant children and teenagers and will often travel across the country for specific cases. In 2009 [[3 2 1 Contact|a bombing at the SCCS]] resulted in the death of a young client and a crisis of faith for Leo.

Scott Summers Brought to the school as an angry product of the foster care system after the death of his parents in a plane crash, Scott was groomed as leader of the fledgling X-Men team and as joint-headmaster (with Ororo Munroe) of the school. His world was shattered with the apparent death of long-time love Jean Grey and over the next few years he gradually pieced things back together, discovering his younger brother Alex and his grandparents were alive and developing an on-again, off-again relationship with British telepath Betsy Braddock. Jean's return changed everything and eventually the two married. In October 2006 he lost an eye, the unexpected side-effect being that he finally gained control of his optic blasts and no longer needed the trademark ruby quartz visor.

Although his marriage almost collapsed with the appearance of Jean's alter-ego, bent on destruction, Scott managed to weather that and Jean's subsequent departure after his own capture and torture. Over the next few years Scott gradually matured into his role as leader of the X-Men, dealing with everything from Magneto taking over a space laser to giant purple dragons. In September 2009, following some particularly fraught months, Scott and Jean relocated to the West Coast Annex under Charles' instructions to assist in forming an active team based on the west coast. Jean has since returned to Xavier's, leaving Scott to continue the work in California.
