Biography

General Nick Fury is the field commander of SHIELD, a government task force dealing with sensitive intelligence matters. He is highly connected to various government and civilian espionage agencies, although very few official records of his affiliations exist. He has been identified by Gambit as a former operative for the CIA, although this is only as reliable as any of Fury's many cover identities.

When Manhattan was attacked by Apocalypse in 2008, Nick Fury, along with Val Cooper came to the Xavier Institute to petition the X-Men for assistance with the situation. Fury's role as Director of SHIELD came into the open following the incident, when SHIELD was announced by the President as a "new" government agency.

In November 2009 the Vault, a SHIELD-run prison facility for mutants, was announced and the transfer of mutant criminals from across the country begun. It also marked the country's biggest ever mass escape as Infectia managed to get hold of some Kick and successfully infected a number of guards and fellow prisoners with her spores. SHIELD was called in to assist in recapturing the prisoners and calming the riot at the prison, a task they found themselves hugely under-resourced for, requiring Fury's quiet incorporation of the X-Men as "consultants".

Fury was part of a meeting discussing the Genosha situation, which reluctantly agreed there was nothing to be done to aid Xavier's people without international incident.

Powers/Abilities

Nick Fury has no mutant powers, but is assumed to be highly trained in military tactics, armed and unarmed combat, and various forms of espionage and intelligence gathering. He also has access to the resources of SHIELD, a highly-placed government organization.
