Plot Summary
One of the X-Men's greatest weapons against Magneto has proved to be time and time again his faith in the abilities of Mortimer Toynbee, and Toynbee's constant ability to screw even the simplest mission up. However, this time Toynbee has a plan even his boss would consider genius. He's been secretly working with Mister M., a mutant who has the power to manipulate chemical compounds, and between them, they've come up with a new more powerful aerosol version of Kick. Unlike the previous incarnations, which require an inhaler and the direct exposure to a significant dose, this version can be used for wide dispersal, and a small amount can set off a mutant's powers.
Toad's plan is simple; if the chemical was mixed with other mind altering chemicals and set off in mutant communities, like District X, the ensuing destruction would force far more restrictive government intervention and the possibility of mutant riots being violently put down. Such events would drive more mutants into the Brotherhood and their philosophy. Unfortunately, they need a field test of the drug before bringing it to the boss and decide to test it in a District X club as a 'controlled environment' to judge the effects. They choose Silver on August 8th as their target.
That night is also Yvette's 19th birthday, and she's decided to spend it at the all ages party at Silver. She's been promised access to the VIP lounge where she can relax away from the crowded floor and all her friends from the students and grads are free to join her. Things are lively when Toad sets off his Kick, but the first mutants for the effects to hit are Megan and Laurie, who start pumping out pixie dust and feel good pheromones at ridiculous levels. The party turns into a vague love-in, as addled mutant teens wander the floor watching their hallucinations, grooving to the music, and feeling nothing but goodwill towards others as the effects take hold. An incredulous Toad is ready to bolt when he ends up in a bearhug from a tiny Yvette severing his own mask and adding him to the effects of the drug and the mutant powers.
Eventually, Kyle and Laura's healing factors kick in and clear their heads enough to call for help and the club is evacuated. Toad's partner manages to sneak him free of the club, but is caught before he can escape. Toad himself bounces free, traveling around the city in a state of sublime bliss, knowing love like never before and twirling, always twirling away into the night.
