Arthur's polite smile broke into an answering grin as Emma spoke. "I have to say, your accent is superb — clothing for our thoughts." He lengthened his own vowels at the end, drawing his voice closer to Emma's own. "You've got more upper crust, there, though? Boardroom aristocracy. Hint of Boston at the edges. Fabulous indeed." The blond man waved that off, getting back to business. His eyes shone with good humor. "My goal here is to learn what's normal for you before jumping into what might have been different lately. Sounds like you're describing what Haller would call," and he reflexively switched accents again to something closer to Jim's holmesian logic, "standard telepathic projection and manipulation." He put a hand to his chin in thought. "So let's get to it. Has anything been different within the last three months? Flares, expected growth, not coming as easily as normal?" "Standard telepathic projection and manipulation in the way Cartier makes standard jewellery, yes," replied Emma, smiling. "None of the more exotic flavourings like technopathy or psychometry. As for changes. . . None that I've noticed particularly. I haven't been in the Mansion much, I admit, and from your email it sounds like you think that's where any changes might manifest? I mean," Emma leaned back in her chair, "I did unexpectedly turn into organic diamond during a spectacularly traumatic event, so I'm willing to consider more deeply if you have parameters to work within?" He nodded over his notes, but extended a hand. "Psychometry here," and he gave his fingers a wiggle, "I just discovered I had it last year, but it's a good example — I've been putting my own memories onto objects without knowing it. There are at least ten others experiencing power issues — just the psis — but the common part does seem to be being at or around the Mansion." Arthur tried to give an honest smile. "There's no clear through-line or objective yet. When's the last time you were at the Mansion?" Emma shrugged. “I’ve flitted in and out; a few hours here or there over the last few weeks.” She frowned suddenly, tapped a diamond fingernail on the desk. “When you’re talking differences in powers. . . would you be talking about a shift in my telepathy? Or is there any suggestion of suddenly using an. . . associated power.” She shook her head slightly and sighed. “Let me be terribly blunt about the whole thing; is there a possibility I could be suffering from telekinesis?” This got his interest. Arthur raised both eyebrows and leaned in just a little. "Please, tell me more about 'suffering from telekinesis.' I've never had to worry about it." Emma made a moue. “It’s so. . . tacky,” she sighed. “All these telepaths going round and developing telekinesis. Like lifting things with your mind isn’t just turning your brain into a brute force machine. Telekinesis isn’t elegant, Arthur.” She sighed again, this one deep and positively heart-rending. “I assumed one of the others was pranking me.” "If it helps," he offered with an extended hand, not close enough to touch, "Everyone else is likely too preoccupied to have noticed. TK does seem," and there was the slow consideration of carefully chosen words here, "common paired with telepathy. Are we talking big things," and the man spread his arms to helpfully mime lifting a heavy object, "or smaller?" His gesture tightened, as if he was trying to indicate the shape of a racketball. “Pieces of paper,” replied Emma. “Small items falling over behind me, that kind of thing. The kind of thing that might be a sudden unexpected gust of wind, or dust, or a sudden unexpected burst of TK, all of which are available to residents here. Ugh,” said Emma, somehow managing to make the word sound impossibly elegant. “Adrienne once told me she saw a few of my bedside trinkets floating beside me when she came in to wake me up. The thing is, Mr Centino,” said Emma, almost but not quite accusatory, “I absolutely refuse to be telekinetic. My mind is a scalpel, not a bulldozer. If I need to lift heavy objects, I have my own methods.” And for a moment, her skin rippled into diamond form and then back again. Alison ribs Lorna for making up with Alex while Angelo congratulates Alex and suggests they run a kid’s PE course, Amanda learns about what happened between Manuel and Bethany Moore and tries to maintain both of her relationships with Angelo’s help, and Nathan gets on Madelyn’s bad side when he needs to recuperate after an intense spar with Sarah, who gets the lecture from Cecilia. A small team of X-Men rescues a kidnapped Wanda Maximoff. 2005: Bobby is reinstated to the team. Manuel talks to Kitty about Amanda. Dani apologises to Manuel for her powers accident. Madelyn apologises to the psis for avoiding them in the wake of Butterfly Effect. Kyle steals Forge's shoe and Jamie's lunch and suffers. 2006: Marius finally talks to Jennie and realizes that certain bridges can't be rebuilt. During a training session with Wanda, Amanda discovers a neat little spell. Forge hasn't been dealing well with... well, anything and ends up taking it out on Kyle. Terry finds herself performing jazz in the city. 2007: New Orleans Is Sinking - The NOAA charts a disturbing weather pattern in the Gulf of Mexico - a hurricane that shouldn't be, heading for New Orleans; Wanda, Marie-Ange and Remy have a group training and there is an unanticipated powers interaction. 2008: Kyle makes meatloafapillars. 2009: The New Mutants, the RAs and Tabitha go to the amusement park; Inez talks to Jan about how things aren't progressing with Julian; Catseye encounters Fred rigging the system with his powers; Nick talks to Catseye about his mother when she has an upset stomach after the rollercoaster; Dori teaches Yvette about roller coasters and funnel cakes. Dani announces she is going to Attilan for further training and to finish her degree. 2010: Crystal announces she is going to use "Zephyr" as her X-Men code name. Jean-Paul catches Laurie singing to the X-Factor office plants and they chat about various things. 2011: Adrienne posts about baseball. 2012: Tandy posts about a guy skydiving from space. 2013: 2014: Wade emails Marie-Ange from Columbia to let her know he’s getting impatient about not being able to kill anyone, and that Doug isn’t coping. Tandy has another nightmare about The Dweller in the Dark and Adrienne helps her cope. Gabriele meets Namor in the gym and isn’t impressed. Tandy emails Amanda about her nightmare. Julian visits Adrienne about a new suit and they talk about him possibly buying Silver, the nightclub in District X and Tandy walks in when he’s being measured - in his underwear; later, Julian and Tandy talk about the incident and go out for food; Tandy and Julian’s dinner attracts the attention of the paparazzi. Higher Than Hope: Doug updates on his leads and admits that Telford Porter is not involved, but the Foundation for Genetic Harmony might be; Garrison posts to x_team revealing that one of the interns at the same place has stopped contacting his family. Matt and Miles talk about Miles’ week so far and his knack of accidentally pissing off people. PHASE 2 2015: Maya makes a journal entry about the donut showdown being her jam. Jean leaves Scott a birthday present. Alex and Lorna clean out their apartment and discuss some Important Things. Jean gets Scott to help her buy a car in order to distract him from party preparations. Rachel and Gabriel have their first real conversation since the apocalypse/rapture/M-Day, and they decide to fly the coop. 2016: 2017: Xavin posts a cryptic post on their journal in relation to Quentin. Wade texts North and Felicia about the drama in the house, and dubs them Norlicia. 2018: 2019: Bobbi posts to the mansion her goodbyes. 2020: Jubilee posts from hospital, in pain and wanting to know what happened. 2021: 2022: Darcy ponders if Chip 'n' Dale have a luck mutation. Alani shares news of Hawai'i closing their last coal powered power plant. 2023: Sooraya and Sharon S. talk after the spray bottle incident. Kyle demands a full-on investigation for his missing ice cream. Darcy gets drinks and food with Sam and Jubilee after a day of delayed flights.
