Monica Rappaccini came to work for Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker in the late 80s. One of the many projects she worked on was a living bio-weapon. These projects also furthered some of Monica's own goals. Among them was a project using her own DNA has a partial base. The second half of the base was von Strucker himself, though he was never informed of this. The weapon designed was Cammie and Monica used herself as the broodmare for reasons mostly to deal with wanting to control every facet of the process.

After the birth - and testing of the genetics - the girl who Monica dubbed Thanasee was then brought to the attention of von Strucker. He ordered the project terminated when it was stated that the poison would likely work on anyone (not just those of pure Aryan descent). Monica had other things in mind for the project and instead used von Strucker's own resources to make the baby vanish. She used the loose and easily manipulated adoption system in Madripoor to place the child with two people she trusted and had known in college. She didn't tell them the whole truth about the baby's origins, only that she had given birth to and because of her job was unable to care for the child. Monica also explained that her daughter was going to be a mutant, but didn't explain the nature of the mutation. Tim and Julia Black were just thrilled to have a child after years of trying.

The project had quite a few goals, not all of which were von Strucker's. One part of it was to create a perfect bio-weapon/assassin and operative. One who was immune to poisons, who could kill with a touch and who could release a deadly plague on a city and walk out unharmed, never getting sick and never carrying that contagion back to the base. Monica's alliance with von Strucker's crew didn't have so much to with her belief in any doctrine as it did a complete and utter distaste for Western Civilization on a whole. Monica's desire to wipe the slate clean on a global basis and replace it with what she considered an elevated, enlightened and evolved society prompted her to create the project. She doesn't think evolved applies just to mutants. She considers it to apply only to the highly intelligent and logical. The name 'eternal life' applies to nothing more than the concept of attaining eternal life genetically through one's own offspring.
