Part 1 of the Genosha Arc
"Since then, Genoshan mutants are drafted in government service when they manifest. They're responsible for a lot of our prosperity, and they get paid well. The problem is that over the last few years... I don't know. The mood has changed."
Two young refugees from the island nation of Genosha wind up staying briefly at the mansion, only to mysteriously disappear while under FBI protection.

Plot Summary
Jennifer Ransome and Phillip Moreau have turned Washington upside down with their sudden appearance in New York. Moreau, son of the Genoshan President, asks for asylum for himself and his girlfriend, citing that Jennifer’s genetic condition as a mutant will see her stripped of her rights as a citizen and subjected to conscription into the Genoshan mutant service. During the debriefing with both teenagers, it becomes obvious that Genosha’s mutant program is different from what it claims to be, and the US is forced to weigh their diplomatic and financial relationships with Genosha with the asylum request. Professor Xavier is called in as an advisor, and he offers to let the two stay at the school, so the United States can at least claim that Ransome is being tested, delaying the need to make a final decision about whether to offer asylum or send them back.
At the school, both Moreau and Ransome discuss life on Genosha, the rumours they have heard, and get interested in programs like Red X and HeliX, which are not just banned from Genosha, but also censored out of the media. Ransome’s powers are discovered to be minor, but potentially beneficial, as she can induce minor changes at the cellular level. MacTaggert offers a potential solution, offering to take them both on at Muir as students, which would protect them from deportation without cause. With a solution in hand, both Ransome and Moreau travel into New York for a final round of authorizations and to talk with representatives from the UN and aid agencies regarding Genosha, even as their claims are roundly denied by Genoshan diplomats. In the middle of the night, despite an FBI guard, both teens disappear without a trace.
