"I so lucked out!" Beef crowed, happily rearranging the "Welcome to the X-Corps" briefing package that had been handed to him this morning. The newest recruit had wasted no time in making people aware that it was "Beef" and not Buford.

It was easier to say and, well, he looked more like a Beef than a Buford.

"Are you insane?" The man next to him stared for a second. "Maximoff rides our asses."

Beef shrugged. "Hey, way I figure, anyone here would ride our asses--this place was founded by the X-Men, after all--but she's hot, man."

"Well, it's nice to know that I still have it," Wanda said wryly, walking past them and to the front of the room. Turning, she gave them a brilliant smile. "Mr. Wellington, kindly do not attempt to die of embarrassment in my class. That shade of red is simply not your color...and neither is that shade of purple you're turning into."

Pausing, she excused herself, and tapped the phone ear piece she had one. "Hello? Ah, Cain...oh good, you are not calling from the helmet comms this time. Yes, yes, we're holding the poker game at our place this time and Stephen is very interested in hearing about that rune you found in New York." She rolled her eyes. "No, you may not do anything horrible to Wisdom...I don't care if you want to see how fast he can go. Okay. I'll see you then."

"Sorry about that." Glancing around at her squad, she smiled. "First of all, a very good job done last week. No major injuries and we now have two people wanted for crimes against mutants in our custody. Cassidy sends his regards and his thanks. Second, let's welcome our newest recruit, Bu..." Wanda grinned. "Beef. You'll be teamed up with the folks sitting next to you. Bishop, Shard, I hope you'll take good care of him."

Shard just grinned a little bit as Bish sketched off a salute--one she knew wasn't sarcastic.

"Down to business. Cassidy wants us to investigate a group of folks who apparently bombed and killed several mutants, and humans, in Egypt."

"The FoH?" someone asked, sitting forward.

"We're not sure yet. We'll go in and talk to the locals, see if we can't find out some more information and whereabouts of the bombers. Find the information, follow the trail and get them into custody as soon as possible. Any questions?"

No one raised their hand. Wanda nodded. "Alright, you're dismissed. I want you back in the hanger in 24 hours, ready to go. I want this under wraps before the weekend, people. Not only do I have plans but we need to make sure they don't strike again."

A pleased smile crossed her face as they shuffled out, watching Shard throw a friendly arm over a still blushing Beef. Despite the large amounts of silver in the curls and nearing 40, she ran one hell of a strike and police force.

Glancing at her watch, she sighed. One more meeting with Sean and then she was free for the day.

"Dr. MacTaggart! Dr. MacTaggart! Damn it, wait up!"

Moira didn't even slow down as the younger doctor scrambled to catch up with her. The halls of the Research Center were bustling and full today, some new mutants that the School had wanted checked out. Thank God for teleporting former students.

"Wha' is it?" she asked. "I've got a meetin' wit' Maddie on Foundation business in...half an hour. Thankfully she's comin' 'ere instead o' me goin' there but still."

"Test results," he gasped, flapping the folder at her.

"Whose would those be? 'ang on a second." Leaning around a corner, she bellowed for a second. "Curt, get yer ass ta th' meetin' room in fifteen." She ruffled the hair of his son, who flailed at her hands for a second. "Teenagers."

"Are those th' results tha' Wisdom wanted?" Moira guessed. "'e's been runnin' me bloody ragged, probably revenge for all those exams."

"No, they're--dammit, Dr. MacTaggart, wait up!"

"Grow longer legs."

"They're your test results," he got out, thrusting the folder at her. "I tried to call you earlier but you never answer your phone."

"Oh." Without stopping, Moira grabbed the file. "I'll take a look at them--in private. If I need anythin', I'll let ye know."

Finally reaching her office, she slipped inside and shut the door behind her. It took her a second to flip it open and read it.

Sagging against the door, she reached out and connected instantly with two familiar minds.

  1. Negative for cancer.#

The links from her husband and daughter blazed red hot with relief and joy.
