"You know, I was rather hoping to avoid the cemetery. It seems a bit on the nose after the whole Death thing-- ah, there she is." Marius spotted Nica at the cemetery gates and gave the young woman a wave. "Hello. We were summoned?" Rogue had to agree with Marius but because their friendship seemed to be built on making the other uncomfortable, she was partly amused as well. This entire mission seemed so strange already, and it was just getting weirder. Although, truly who was she to judge? "You got us here, to do whatever it is you need to do. Is it just us?" "Thanks for coming." Nica gave the two other X-Men a smile. "I'm sorry to drag you here, but we have a bit of a gamma radiation problem, and I wasn't sure that I could handle it on my own. Or at all, to be honest." Marius nodded. "We live to serve. I take it the problem is severe?" "Enough that it needs to be cleaned up before it contaminates the area. Or makes someone really sick. But..." And here Nica blushed a little. "Gamma isn't part of my usual range, mostly because I've never really encountered it before. So I thought maybe you guys could help?" "Yeah, that makes sense. Not much can really hurt li'l ol' me, so you just let me know where I gotta stand to help you out. Is Marius just being a mutant divining rod and I'm the spirit it speaks through then?" The Australian gave his chin a thoughtful stroke. "I'm no better acquainted with gamma than the next person," he said, "and no doubt considerably worse at conversion than either of you, but perhaps this could be turned to our advantage. Given my natural predilection towards passive absorption, if gamma is within Nica's capabilities to process I am almost certainly doing so already. What if I were to attempt to emit, say, infrared without making any particular effort towards refinement?" He flicked his gaze back to Nica. "You said if I don't focus my efforts I throw everything I've got. If I project an otherwise known quantity, would the two of you then be able to pick out the unfamiliar?" "See, this is why I asked for you. You know how to put this into words." Nica gave Marius a half-smile. "I mean, technically gamma's possible, since I channel the EM field. So, how do we do this? Marie? You need to touch me to get my powers, right?" Rogue nodded, almost apologetically. "I'll have to hold on longer than I'd like, kiddo. And it might knock you out for a li'l bit too, so I can start on one end of this here graveyard, and y'all can go to the other side to rest and relax. Marius here can be a bit of a babysitter as well, if need be. You just gotta clear your mind as best as possible, but I apologize in advance if I take out any memories, or feelings while I'm doing it. I don't try to do that, and I've gotten real good at compartmentalizing, and ignoring what I don't need. You just let me know when you're okay with this and we can start." Nica nodded, face a little pale but expression determined as she held out her bare hand for Rogue to take. "We're looking at absorbing the gamma and converting it to something else on the EM spectrum that's, you know, less radioactive. Think happy sunbeams or radio waves or something," she instructed the pair of them. "Let's do this?" "At your discretion, ladies," replied Marius, though he couldn't resist watching as the younger woman extended her hand to Rogue. He'd gone through great efforts to render borrowing mutations as clinical as possible, at least insofar as it affected his teammates. Even without the involvement of his natural extraction mechanisms Rogue's powers were far more elegant. Fewer sharp objects, for a start. But then, it was more than physical vulnerability that the woman's powers left you open to. It never did get easier, and in a way, Rogue hated doing repeat sessions. She would never admit this, but the more she took from someone, the more fleshed out the shadow in her head became. This wasn't the first time she'd absorbed Nica, and because her initial absorption was so long ago, her powers seemed to want to fill in the blanks. The memories of Nica's mother dying .... being on the team ... filling in for leaders. ...missions ... experiences ... it was a lot and it took more than she wanted. Rogue tried to let go, and she realized in horror that it wasn't as easy as she thought. It literally took all her mental fortitude to do so, and she was surprised that Nica wasn't passed out -- Rogue definitely felt like doing so. As Rogue let go of her hand Nica swayed on her feet. "Woah, headrush," she muttered, before taking a couple of wobbly steps and sitting on a park bench - there were plenty of those left out for mourners and visitors. "I'll be okay inna minute." Today in XProject: July 14 - Korvus Rook'shir and Emma Frost's birthday PHASE 2 2015: Patent Pending: Miles texts Peter about a job Warren has for them. Jean meets Hope A. in astral form. Laurie texts Wade to check on him following the mission to save North. 2016: Emma posts an open invite to her suite to celebrate her birthday. 2017: Garrison and Laurie have an intense discussion during a training session in the Danger Room. Jean-Philippe quotes the national anthem of France in a post. Bobbi expresses her need to drink this weekend. 2018: 2019: Fear in the Dark: Marie-Ange goes into a precognitive state and starts texting Fourteen with various drawings, who then shares them with Doug; in the morning, Thor arrives at the mansion with explanations and something to help Tandy with the Dweller; Thor and Tandy explain the situation to the leaders of the various teams, plus Iron Man and Captain America, and a collaboration is made; Clea posts to her journal about calamities across the world, while Cyclops posts an all-call to the mansion for help; the eight Worthy are in various cities across the world generating panic and fear for Cul to feed on and eight teams of mutants and Avengers take them on; a ninth team goes to Norway to confront Cul, who tries to free the Dweller; Marie-Ange and Doug help Tandy fight the Dweller for control while Cyclops, Hellion, Wolverine and Skin back up Thor who confronts his uncle with a new Odinsword; Cul knocks the sword away from Thor and it lands in front of Doug; Tandy approaches Cul and hits him with an enormous light burst and Doug beheads him with the sword; all over the world, the Worthies’ hammers turn to dust and the possessed bodies are released; Doug posts about needing an Odinsleep. 2020: Emma posts about celebrating her birthday with cake and alcohol. 2021: Emma celebrates Bastille Day (and her birthday) with a post about setting government institutions on fire. Matt wants to change his team codename to Batman due to his echolocation. Kitty joins in with a request for “Mega-Destroyer” and a mecha to match. 2022: Monica posts about visiting Louisiana with her dad. 2023: Jubilee reflects on her going no tech has meant she’s out of the loop on mansion gossip and asks someone to fill her in. Quentin accidentally posts a text to Cyndi on the journals as a whole and mentions Jean having stayed with Haller overnight; Nica picks up on the slip and texts the Grad Girl Squad, unhappy at Haller for two-timing Sooraya. Inez goes to visit Darcy at the X-Force office, before their discussion takes a bit of an unexpected turn. 2024: X-Men Mission: What of the Hunting, Hunter Bold? Dazzler uses sound to burn the illusion magic away; Ulysses Bloodstone finds out his hunt wasn’t what he thought it was; Mayhem and Echo find Echo’s deer-man boyfriend and Mayhem takes a large bite out of the hunters; Wildchild and Bevatron rescue Liam and Sharon in the nick of time; the X-Men find the Bloodstones but the mastermind behind the plan - Verussa - escapes; Dust and Phoenix tend to Liam and Sharon; Bevatron and Cyclops make sure the human traffickers get just consequences; Cyclops posts an update on the status of the mutants saved in the rescue mission to x-teams. PHASE 1 2003: 2004: Nathan shuts himself away in his room and refuses to talk to anyone for half the day. Sarah and Clarice fight. Amanda thinks she's pregnant and Manuel reveals his true feelings. Sean "Banshee" Cassidy contacts Charles Xavier about a teaching position. Madelyn emails Clarice about working in the medlab as a helper. 2005: Bobby organises the carpool for the release of the latest Harry Potter book. X-Men Mission: A Mirror Darkly: Domino e-mails Nathan from Chad asking for help, and he brings the team in on it. 2006: Jubilee makes the decision to move to the West Coast Annex to train with the team out there. Julio and Marie meet for the first time since the beach, and Julio discovers something new about his power. Forge visits the Snow Valley Center to get some counseling about his new security job and ends up burying the hatchet with both Amanda and Doug. Terry and Bobby take off for the weekend to Las Vegas. Nathan and Marie have a relatively normal conversation. And Betsy finally visits Haller and does not like what she finds, and one of Haller's alternate personalities sets her on fire. Betsy then runs into Scott the hallway, and they have a fight, where Betsy ends up slapping Scott. Julio introduces himself on the journals. Drop of Nightshade: The heads of the crime guilds in New Orleans are lured into a trap and assassinated. 2007: Laurie helps Cain with the kennel and they talk about family. Jean gives Farouk an examination to try and determine the cause of his powers loss. Marie-Ange and Doug arrive in North Carolina. Jennie goes clubbing and meets Mark at Silver. 2008: In an unheard-of act, Adrienne wishes Emma a happy birthday and thanks her for finding the job at Xavier's for her. Julio returns from Mexico; in response to a thread in Julio's journal, Jane announces a Bake-Off on July 26. Third Strike: Zanne is given a package of Kurt's medical documents by a strange woman and passes them onto Scott and Ororo; Scott lets the team know they've got information on Kurt. Laurie tries a jujitsu dojo and meets Doug there. Visiting the mansion, Jubilee irritates Morgan (in her true shape again) and makes a deal with Cain. 2009: Monet runs into Jean-Paul after a sleepless night and they are carefully polite to each other. Mutation Sternutation: Laurie emails Crystal about training with her borrowed powers; Jean posts an update outlining what they've discovered about the powers swapping; Cammie checks up on the reclusive Kurt; Crystal emails Amara, asking for powers training; Forge springs Crystal from medlab and she surprises him by talking about possibly joining the team; Jan talks to Julian about the wisdom in going to a public place such as the movies with powers he can't control; Julian blows up his laptop and Jean calls in Nori to help, drawing off some of the electricity and helping with his control; Marie startles Cammie when she bamfs into the kitchen and drain cleaner smoothies are created. Alexander Lexington turns up at Snow Valley for debriefing, and then Morgan takes him over to the mansion to meet with Charles and discuss the terms of his conditional discharge from the army. Dori finds a Godzilla marathon and asks people to come with her. Catseye asks Scott for help riding her new bicycle and they talk about growing up and changing. Julio is asked to be an RA for the boys and has a talk with Nori about sex talk on the journals being not on any more. Sarah leaves a stuffed toy cat on Catseye's bed and emails her, asking to talk. Adrienne buys herself a motorcycle as a reward for defeating Steven, and Amanda defends the honour of the Broomstick. Lil gives Lex the tour and later takes him to Harry's, where she lets slip about the X-Men. Mark holds a party for the 10th anniversary of Spongebob, which turns into an orgy almost as Jubilee gets Illyana drunk, Marie-Ange turns up already drunk for Bastille Day and demands Mark's special brownies and Jennie joins in; Amanda takes off, not wanting to get into another fight with Jennie; Marie-Ange tries to get Doug drunk enough to sing the Teapot Song; Illyana posts drunkenly; Jubilee posts several times drunkenly; Cammie is convinced to join the party and texts Jake, looking for a ride which is not forthcoming; Emma returns from an award ceremony to find everyone drunk and joins in; Jennie posts a note on Amanda's door; Cammie cadges a crash space from Jake and teases him. Jean-Phillipe also celebrates Bastille Day, with Jean-Paul; a drunken Marie-Ange emails Jean-Paul about not sleeping with her cousin without protection. 2010: Megan decides to send a letter to her sister, Molly, and writes about it in her journal. 2011: Remy emails Amanda, asking her to book him and Ororo tickets home. Vanessa posts about going out of town for work and requests that someone let her know when Jean wakes up. 2012: Laurie announces she’s going away with Eamon for three weeks. Jubilee texts Kurt to let him know she’s going on a job for several weeks and will be out of touch. Meggan leaves Korvus his birthday gifts. Haller emails Maddie to ask her to room with Hope during the re-organisation and after much negotiating and an offer of bribery, she agrees. Angel and Sam talk in the library. 2013: Adrienne delivers a bottle of Frapin Cuvée 1888 and a pair of boots specifically designed for Emma to her sister for her birthday. Angel e-mails Catseye about doing a summer roadtrip this year. Haller visits Betsy in the med lab, and things get a little tense. 2014: Tandy posts asking if anyone has any requests for things she can buy them from Europe. Cecilia texts Wade to ask about why guys wear such tight jeans. Matt declares that it’s taco time. Adrienne posts a birthday message for Emma from Las Vegas where she was currently attending Emma’s birthday party.
