Maya had been mostly quiet on the trip over, which was merely situation nominal for her on the best days. She'd never been particularly chatty, and the atmosphere in this place seemed to suck any degree of happiness down into its overall miasma and kill it dead. She'd have been surprised at the depravity some could treat others with but she had way too many examples of just how shitty human beings could be.
She held her batons at the ready as they reached the nearest corridor to the holding cells, and noted the number of inhabitants to each cell. Crowding people in like sardines always seemed to be the point in these places, just one more indignity amongst a number of them. If she ever got a hold of any of the leaders, she'd definitely have to see how far she could stretch 'non-lethal force' to.
"It's certainly not going on my list of holiday destinations." Scott agreed, eyes dancing over the crowded cells, the forlorn hopeless faces of the cramped prisoners. They may have turned their faces towards the door, but only with the dull look of those who had been beaten so long they could only expect more. Hope was a tenuous thing, and now, with even hope taken from them the prisoners were little more than husks waiting for the next round of experiments.
"The more I see places like this, what they'll do, the more I start to wonder if Magneto wasn't right."
A sigh escaped the man's lips, weary and tired as he gestured at the door, "We can't leave them in here."
“We need to find the guard room.” Maya noted, striding forward as she kept her head on a swivel to make sure they weren’t ambushed. “It’ll have the controls.”
"Let's call that plan A, plan B is I blow off the hinges and the doors come falling down." As he spoke Scott's eyes glanced over the building, of course the bad guys wouldn't just leave wires hanging out like a path but "We haven't crossed a control room yet so I guess we have to head deeper in."
Green eyes watched them from a solitary cell, the collar around their owner’s neck humming lowly. “Guard room is that way,” he muttered, pointing down one of the directions in the upcoming fork in the hallway.
Maya looked at the ‘prisoner,’ cataloguing any evidence of wounds so she’d be able to triage him properly later.
“Thanks,” she said, remembering to vocalize. “We’ll have you all out of here soon.”
“Whatever,” he shrugged, not seeming too confident in their ability to do that
There was something sad, almost heart-breaking about the lack of hope, of anything other than soul crushing despair in the man's face as he sat hunched against the wall. Scott wanted to say something, the magic words that would lift him off of the pit of darkness that he was enmeshed in. The X-Man knew from experience though that sometimes there were no words that could lift your spirits, you had to see tangible proof.
Proof that they would have to provide.
Silently Scott touched Maya's shoulder, nodding down the hallway in the direction the man had indicated. "I'll open the door, you move in using the surprise. We need them down fast, preferably alive but..." his eyes glanced at the cells, "don't put yourself at any risk."
Another step as his eyes started to glow, energy gathering before with a crash, the guardroom door went flying into the room.
2015: Sooraya and Kitty bump into and get to know one another. Quentin stumbles into Amadeus’ dreams while asleep, the experience isn’t great for either of them. Topaz posts to the journals asking if there is anyway she can learn more languages cause she’s bored. Quentin asks if he can get a room without roommates, Amadeus on the other hand takes time off school cause he has a migraine. Tandy posts to the journals asking for volunteers to come to her uncle’s soup kitchen. Gabriel recommends people avoid catching the flu. Xavin posts to warn people that they have turned green and can't turn back. Molly texts Reed to check if he’s alright. Along Came A Spider: Wanda, Felicia, Doug, and Clint time their infiltration of the facility where Natasha is being held but run into few surprises.
2017: Kyle posts another horrifying octoturkey/turkeytopus. Nica posts about eating leftovers and reading Black Friday horror fiction. Reed posts about flat earthers. Quentin texts Xavin asking them to take care of his chinchilla. Tandy posts about the food bank she is trying to open.
2021: Quentin meets Kevin at a range to begin his gun education and they talk gun usage by government agencies. Darcy returns Midnight to Topaz, along with some food and comfort.
2022:Thanksgiving. Darcy tells Clint to come out so she can feed him.
2023: Alani, Madin, and Nica go for a hike at Saratoga Spa State Park.
2024: Kevin M. and Shatterstar have a horrible, no-good, very bad first meeting.
2003:X-Men Mission: Lowenstein: The X-Men return to the mansion with Bobby in tow; it's revealed that Bobby was kidnapped some months prior and replaced by Mystique who used her shapeshifting to duplicate him.
2004: Madelyn takes Jubilee home with her for Thanksgiving. Nathan and Haroun get into a bar brawl in New York.
2005:Thanksgiving. Haroun has recurring nightmares about the 'ware as a separate entity. Lost In The Woods: On her way to spend the weekend with her boyfriend, Jubilee has a car accident and is abducted by Selene's men.
2006:Living Pele: Vida confronts Lorna about kissing Alex, and mutual threats are made. Yvette meets Kurt. Nathan has dinner with Juanita and Angelo, and later the proud 'parents' discuss their boy; an idea is hatched. Amanda catches Wanda working late and they talk about Pietro. Shiro and Yvette meet, and he gives her advice on how to manage her hands better whilst eating.
2007: Tabitha has insomnia. Jane and Amanda catch up over the bus run; Amanda runs into Dani at the end of the day, and they have a surprisingly civil conversation; Kurt finds Amanda on the back porch and she is talked into puppy-sitting whilst he's in Japan. Doug and Marie-Ange discuss Doug's new training with Remy. Ororo goes to New Orleans to meet Remy, and is introduced to Tante Mattie.
2008: Laurie has a cold coming on and emails Jean. Mechanisms of Revenge: Pete wakes up to find he and the others have been saved by Blaquesmith, for his own purposes. Monet and Callie distract each other with small talk and movies. Adrienne happens upon a still-emotionless Doug and discovers she can read him by touching him.
2009: Jan plans Thanksgiving and Julian snipes at Callie in the ensuing thread; Callie emails Julian, asking him what his issue is; the two argue it out and resolve their differing responses to Fred's condition. Hank announces that Fred has been moved to Muir Island.
2010: Lorna takes food orders for Thanksgiving and lets people know she'll be in Hawaii for a week after the holiday. Amanda announces she'll be in Japan for a few days.
2011:Thanksgiving. Marie-Ange picks up North at the airport and there is discussion of what he's missed. Jan wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Adrienne has been knitting and offers hats, mitts and slippers to anyone at the mansion; Adrienne emails Callisto about taking more woollen goodies to the drop in centre in District X. Wade brings North turkey, and the pair talk about various things. Scott spots North on the smoker's porch and is suspicious of the man, but eventually comes around. Meggan and Korvus talk while preparing food, and establish where exactly they stand.
2012: Adrienne and Garrison have their second first date; things get awkward at the end of the night, and Adrienne takes it upon herself to fix that. Topaz goes to the library for some quiet time but ends up meeting Matt.
2014: Scott makes an important discovery about Gabriel's powers that involves a pool, and Gabriel does not take kindly to the way that discovery is made. Adri texts Kane to taunt him about recent baseball trades. Impossible Odds: Jean makes an x_team journal entry about Longshot’s involvement in the attempted terrorist attack in Topeka. Rogue texts Adri about her date with Todd the Barista.
