Childhood
Lorna's childhood history remains incompletely disclosed, including her place of birth and the names of her parents. She was adopted at an early age and took her adopted parents last name 'Dane'. The Danes never told Lorna that they were not her true parents for fear that the truth might have a traumatic effect on her. Lorna grew up unaware of her parentage and led a relatively normal life, except for the naturally green hair she was born with. To avoid unwanted attention, her parents, though later by her own choice, kept it dyed brown at all times. Since coming to the school, she has let it return to her normal green.
+
Susanna Dane was a young research assistant that focused on genetic mutation. She met the handsome Erik Lehnsherr during an open seminar and was taken right away by his charm. The relationship was short-lived, but it would forever change her life when she found out she was pregnant two months later. She was able to get in contact with him to inform him that she was both expecting and going to keep the child regardless if he was involved or not. Susanna never knew of Erik’s activities or that he was a mutant, so when Lorna was born with green hair it was a complete shock. When it came to light that Erik was indeed a mutant, Susanna came to the conclusion that her green haired babe would be the same.
 +
 +
Despite it all, Erik supported the mother and daughter in hopes that Lorna would show more signs of being a mutant other than the green hair. His patience was rewarded when her powers manifested during the Great Headache on May 14th — when she was almost ten. After Lorna awoke from passing out, she learned that her powers had killed her mother but had saved her. Distraught, Lorna withdrew until Erik came for her and took her to live with him.
 +
 +
Lorna was mostly kept in the dark about Brotherhood activities but knew that her father was into some bad things. He treated her well enough, giving her a place to live, food, education, and also training her personally as her powers were almost identical to his. She was placed into a prestige high school for the wealthy and started to dye her hair brown – mostly to fit in and to halt any gossip. Later in life, Lorna realized that Erik had placed her in that particular school to gain the trust of certain politician’s kids and to facilitate entry into their homes.

Her family is small and close-knit and she has focused a great deal of her life on making her parents proud and living up to their expectations. The Danes are well-off, but by no means wealthy. Lorna grew up in southern California in a fairly exclusive gated community and attended a succession of small, private Catholic schools. She graduated from an all girls Catholic high school and is a national merit scholar. As of her graduation senior year, she had enough AP credits to apply for sophomore standing; this is unremarkable to her as many of her classmates could claim the same. She took four years of Spanish and some of it she even remembers. As well, Lorna took cooking lessons for 7 years, becoming a gifted chef and gaining a passable mastery of French (mostly the swear words).
+
After Lorna graduated high school, she was accepted into the Geology program at UC Berkeley. It was then she confronted her father about the Brotherhood, but found the only way she could learn anything was to fully accept membership into the group. Against her better judgment, she agreed. Lorna was then allowed access to knowledge of all of the Brotherhood's activities and, furthermore, her father's plans about the world he envisioned for all mutant kind. Most critically, she stumbled upon knowledge of her half-sister, Wanda.
 +
 +
Time passed with Lorna mostly accepting what she had learned. That is, until one mission did not sit well with Lorna and she finally reached out to Wanda. She wanted to know how her sister was able to stay away from the Brotherhood without them bothering her. This long-distance relationship was not easy at first as neither trusted each other fully, but solidified when until they take the chance to meet each other in real life. Lorna had never been obvious about the Brotherhood's activities, but her guilt about being involved had started to mount. This is why she choose to begin feeding Wanda intelligence on the group's missions — until the Brotherhood found out that there was a mole within their order. Lorna, fearing the worst, needed out. Wanda was her answer.

Entering Xavier's
After high school, Lorna took a semester of college in California before deciding that she wanted to learn more about her powers. Though she chose to go to Xavier's, Lorna never believed that she would ever have anything other than a perfectly normal life. When the school was attacked, Lorna had only been in attendance for about three months. She was not present for the events of X2 as she was home for her cousin's wedding.
+
Lorna arrived at the mansion after Wanda re-routed a trip to to one of the Brotherhood the safe houses. She was little wary at first about meeting other people but opened up when she meet Adrienne Frost. After a few more meetings, Adrienne offered Lorna a job at X-Factor as a junior investigator. Lorna also started to form a close bond with Warren Worthington. She joined X-Factor on a couple of investigations, making a home for herself. She was overjoyed when her fiancé was set to return home from his extended school trip, but his return was complicated due to being kidnapped by the Brotherhood of Mutants as her father wanted to bring her 'home'. With the help of X-Factor and the X-Men, Alex was rescued, but not before he blew himself - and the building - up.

In the fall of 2005, Lorna was kidnapped by Magneto and forced to wear a collar containing the essence of a dead telepath called Malice. While controlled, she murdered at least Alison Blaire's father, lobotomized two FoH youths named Josh and Karen, kidnapped Forge and nearly killed Remy.
+
That fall she started online classes to get an Investigator License part-time while working. She ended the year getting seriously hurt during a mission, which left her nearly blind and incapacitated for a few weeks.

College
+
2016 & 2017
Lorna has something of a sporadic relationship with higher education. Lorna previously added UCLA (1 semester), then took some courses through Westchester.  She was accepted to the University of Hawaii at Hilo but attended only about 6 weeks of classes there and applied but was not accepted to an internship program at UC Berkeley before settling at Westchester College to finish her degree. Her major is geophysics with an emphasis in terrestrial magnetism and seismology.
+
2016, thankfully, went a little smoother. Lorna and Alex continued to repair their relationship working at X-Factor together. In January, she worked a case to help prove that Hope Abbott was innocent of espionage. In August, she and Alex organized a trip Appalachian Trail, which ended with them getting re-engaged. In October, Lorna made it clear that Halloween is not her time of year as the kids can be brats. When December came by, Lorna wanted was reminded once again why she hated living on the East Coast — snow.

2006 was a bad year for Lorna.  Beginning in January when she broke off her engagement to Alex in favor of Remy and moving back to the mansion instead of actually continuing the "normal" life that she claimed to want, Lorna's decisions were often erratic and overly emotional. She rejoined the X-Men but found herself confronted with situations that often overwhelmed her including causing the death of a mutant that had taken over F.O.H. offices.  Her relationships were equally turbulent whether it be with Remy or with her friends (Alison and Jamie moved to California and Lorna replaced these two best friends with two to five new ones in the person of David Haller).  Perhaps most devastating of all was the death of her beloved mentor, Chef Marcel, who succumbed to a heart attack in June.
+
The beginning of the year was a slow start but she spent the time focusing on her wedding planned for the end of year. She found a dress to dye for and shared it with the rest of the mansion. A few weeks later she saw a post by Amanda about mysterious rocks and reached out to her to let her see it, as she had a degree in Geology. After several days or researching, all that Lorna and Alex could find out that it wasn't anything they had seen on Earth.

But it was the discovery that her adoptive parents had a biological daughter that consumed Lorna.  For the next several months, Lorna would search for Zala without pause. She broke up with Remy, relapsed into anorexia, had an ill-advised fling in Cabo San Lucas and found herself benched from the X-Men.
+
In May, while running errands with Alex, Lorna was part of a group of hostages at a bank. She was able to talk the guy down to learn that he just wanted the law enforcement to look for his mutant son. XFI ended up taking the case and found Collin in Center Park. After discussion with the mother, they decided to help him move forward and helped him into a safe house that was part of the Underground Railroad. It was also during this time that was the anniversary of her mother's death, when Lorna's powers first emerged, and she needed to take a few days off because the last case and the memory of her mom. Later in the month, Alex brought home a puppy named Magnus. Lorna and Alex went to investigate anti-mutant graffiti.

2007 wasn't much kinder. Though officially returned to active status and apparently doing better, Lorna's search for Zala only became more intense. When the agency Lorna hired to find her adopted sister refused to continue, Haller connected Lorna with Sofia who used her skills to connect the last few dots.  Her discovery of who Zala had become didn't shake Lorna's desire to meet the older woman and she flew out before Easter to do so. The meeting was strange and oddly unproductive but Lorna seems to be at peace with that, at least so far.
+
October approached quickly as she ready for the wedding. Despite her cool demeanor Lorna was freaking out. Thankfully, Warren had hired a wedding planner to help her out and it was relatively stress-free. After some people mentioned Friday the 13th and rehearsal dinner, Lorna hoped it wasn't jinxed. The next morning it seemed that the Friday the 13th gods had been listening when her father appeared at their wedding. He wanted to see her married and took hostages in order to do so. Though his appearance was changed, there were a select few that knew of his presence. It seemed he really wanted to see her married (and to try to get her to come back to the Brotherhood) as Lorna and Alex were officially husband and wife an hour later. They spent their honeymoon in Ireland, much to their delight.

Departure
New Chapter in 2018
In May 2008 Lorna left to pursue further studies at Berkeley, following a period of time spent living out of the mansion. She returned to the school in March 2010.
+
The New Year brought in a busy time for Lorna as she focused on her studies and registered to take the PI exam in the Spring. She passed and became one of the two actual licensed PIs in X-Factor. However, her relationship with Warren was strained when he came into the office one night under, what Lorna believed, to be drugs and alcohol. The conversation turned violent when Warren dared to say that her father must had pimped her out to the Brotherhood Members. She ended up breaking his nose and dismissing him on leave until he sorts his shit out. When he refused to leave, Lorna tied him to the chair with metal objects and pushed the chair out of the back door.

Physical Characteristics
+
In December she gave her husband, Alex, tickets to his favorite band playing in Las Vegas. They spent the last week of December and part of the New Year together in the desert.

Lorna continued into the New Year with multiple people coming up to her saying that she should give Warren a chance. However, her stubborn nature wouldn't allow her to be the one to confront him first. If he was truly sorry, he would apologize to Alex and then come talk to her.

Weight: 115 lbs*

In April a series of missing people kept XFI busy until a visible mutant named Michelle said that her boyfriend Cain Marko had gone missing. Fearing it might be Brotherhood related, Lorna reached out to Garrison and Scott letting them know the situation. A few days later, Cain made his way back to District X but he was dressed in Asgardian gear and calling himself Kuuth. XFI alerted the XMen and decided to help the people get away and distract Juggernaut aka Kuuth from causing more destruction. They succeeded, but Lorna ended up with a sever dislocated shoulder. She stayed in the hospital for a short while and was in a sling for the better part of the rest of the year.

Eyes: Green.
+
She was left behind during the battle of their world in Fear in the Dark as she was still injured from fighting Cain.

Hair: Green.
+
At the end of the Summer, Warren finally came to visit her and they made up. Lorna apologized for hurting him. But it took a sharp right when Warren said he was leaving the country and leaving XFI in her hands.

Other Features: *Lorna suffers from anorexia nervosa and her weight can fluctuate wildly depending on how well her recovery is going.  An accident in December 2003 left Lorna with severe burn scars over her right shoulder, most of her back and right thigh. Her right hand has scarring on the palm (a burn mostly healed by Amanda). She also has a massive claw scar on her chest (courtesy of Sabertooth during Malice.  She tends to shrug just one shoulder at a time first because of the burns then because her left shoulder has been dislocated twice (once during Thermopylae and once during The Rictor Effect).
+
She's been extremely busy since taking over, only resurfacing once or twice for various emergencies. She's being kept alive by the steady supply of caffeine Alex brings her.

Powers
+
From then Until Now
 +
Lorna decided to step back from being the Boss Lady as she was becoming burnt out from the long hours. She focused her time on her mental health and nature. After a reset, she returned to school to get her Masters in Forensic Psychology. This degree would provide her with a better insight into people’s actions, and when she was ready to go back to XFI, she would have a new set of skills to help her in her PI. She graduated with her Master’s in 2024 but didn’t return immediately to XFI. Instead, she and Alex had renovated a van, stuck everything in storage, and went on the road with Magnus.

Lorna's mutation is the ability to conduct magnetic pulses as pulse bolts, force fields, flight and the manipulation of ferrous materials, absorb electricity to supercharge her own electromagnetic fields. By concentrating, Lorna can perceive the world around herself solely as patterns of magnetic and electrical energy. She can perceive the natural magnetic auras surrounding living beings, as well.
+
They tried to visit every national park and State but only stopped for gas and grocery shopping. Lorna loved the nomad life, with all of its ups and downs. They spent the next several months meeting other nomads, visiting state parks, hiking, and enjoying nature. It was the end of January when they stopped in Nevada after a call from Kara and Allison and so that was their next stop.

Her sensitivity to magnetic fields has increased since joining the team, particularly following Thermopylae when she pushed herself passed her usual limits and then later after training by Magneto. At this time, Lorna can tell EM fields well enough to recognize different metals (provided the signature is different enough) but unless a person has an unusually strong EM field (Alison resulting from her power causing EM fluxes, Forge having artificial limbs) or is very familiar to her (Alex, see: calibrating his suit) she can't identify a person by his field.
+
The moms had decided to move to New York and had been searching for the perfect house. They put in a bid, and their offer was accepted. It surprised Lorna as they always held off that discussion for so long, but was thrilled nonetheless. They extended their stay and helped the family pack everything and move across the country. It became a family trip as they stopped at iconic landmarks and Lorna’s favorite spots. The trip took about three weeks but still arrived in New York before the moving van arrived.

She can lift herself, as per normal canon and with more difficulty, throw others around. In most cases, she'll use any metal that's handy instead. It's easier to lift someone by his watch than to attempt to move a very weak magnetic field.
+
Lorna helped her in-laws move right in, to a lovely fixer upper home just 30 minutes outside New York City, before discussing returning to XFI with Alex. Feeling supported after the conversation, Lorna would continue to do her best to protect her family while going back to work to help support them. Putting away the van, Lorna started to get back into the stationary lifestyle before heading back to the mansion without Alex, who decided to stay behind and help his moms.

Strength-wise, Lorna is a lot less powerful than Magneto. Magneto taught her to shield herself from solar magnetic storms and to use her powers to destroy electrical pathways in a victim's brain, causing brain damage or even death. (Though Malice preferred to touch her victims to do this, physical contact was not necessary and was mostly done to satisfy Malice's and Lorna's mutual dramatic tendencies.)
+
Physical Characteristics
Shielding-wise, Lorna can block anything metal thrown at her provided she is paying attention. Setting up a shield and doing something else will block some but not all and is liable to get people killed. Ramping up to blocking things like sound (v. v. hard) and light (nigh impossible though Magneto could possibly accomplish it) are short term, full concentration, life or death situations only. Somewhere in between is shielding for non-metal but still material objects. Again, if her attention is off it, stuff will get through.
+
Height: 5'7"

At the moment, Lorna's powers are unstable. She can no longer lift heavy objects (re: an aircraft carrier) and she has problems multitasking - ex: shielding plus attacking. It simply takes too much out of her. The reason her powers are unstable at the moment is most likely to do with her increased inability to concentrate and her health problems (re: anorexia).
+
Weight: 125 lbs

Her body is also acting on its own to protect her from over exerting herself. Further medical tests have revealed that cell regeneration decreases with the use of her powers. If she overexerts herself during missions (ex: absorbing a huge amount of electricity to supercharge her electromagnetic fields) or suffers an injury post using her powers, she takes more days to recover compared to anyone else. That is to say, she'll feel weak and lethargic.
+
Eyes: Green.

Lorna, like many of the X-team, has modified her uniform. While it weighs about 40-60 lbs (about as much as a suit of armor), owing to having been worked through with dense metal plates, she uses her power to keep them close to her and supple. In a fight, she'll fling the metal at an enemy or use it to pull a Paige and Piotr and sheath her fists in it for hand to hand work (which she tries to avoid).

Equipment
Lorna has no permanent equipment as such.  However she does tend to carry at least an pound of metal on her for use in just about any situation. Her X-Men uniform is layered with 40 lbs of metal for use in the field.  She uses her powers to keep it flexible while worn.

Trivia
* Though you couldn't get her to admit in under pain of torture or death, Lorna was once active in a Vampire: the Masquerade LARP.

* Like Forge, Lorna doesn't like cilantro.

* Lorna continues to plot ways to get the men of the school into compromising positions, whether it be through a cross-dressing fashion show or a swimsuit calendar.  She's been unsuccessful so far at getting any of the males to cooperate and appears to have dropped it.

* Lorna is also infamous for welcoming newcomers with "Welcome to the Madhouse", to the point if someone else uses it, people will point out that was Lorna's phrase.

Lorna has power over magnetism. She has the ability to conduct magnetic pulses as bolts, create force fields, fly, manipulate ferrous materials, and absorb electricity to charge her own electromagnetic fields. If she concentrates, she can see the world only as patterns of magnetic and electrical energy. Lorna can also see the natural magnetic aura’s around living beings. She can even control the natural irons inside a person. Her sensitivity towards magnetic fields is very strong, but she still has trouble blocking solar storms when they hit the earth. Even the faintest one can give her a little headache.  She can recognize different EM fields and can name different metals by their feel.

Thermopylae
+
Lorna can lift herself to fly and can move (throw) other people around. While many people have weak magnetic fields surrounding them, prefers to instead use use whatever metal they are carrying instead. Lorna can also lift metal objects with ease, but currently has the upper limit of a medium to large size airplane. She can block anything metal thrown at her. Her force field shielding will block most objects and are not hard to leave it up for a while, but constant impacts will weaken the shield with each hit.

Biography

Childhood

That fall she started online classes to get an Investigator License part-time while working. She ended the year getting seriously hurt during a mission, which left her nearly blind and incapacitated for a few weeks.

2016 & 2017

2016, thankfully, went a little smoother. Lorna and Alex continued to repair their relationship working at X-Factor together. In January, she worked a case to help prove that Hope Abbott was innocent of espionage. In August, she and Alex organized a trip Appalachian Trail, which ended with them getting re-engaged. In October, Lorna made it clear that Halloween is not her time of year as the kids can be brats. When December came by, Lorna wanted was reminded once again why she hated living on the East Coast — snow.

New Chapter in 2018

In December she gave her husband, Alex, tickets to his favorite band playing in Las Vegas. They spent the last week of December and part of the New Year together in the desert.

2019 in a Nutshell

Lorna continued into the New Year with multiple people coming up to her saying that she should give Warren a chance. However, her stubborn nature wouldn't allow her to be the one to confront him first. If he was truly sorry, he would apologize to Alex and then come talk to her.

She was left behind during the battle of their world in Fear in the Dark as she was still injured from fighting Cain.

At the end of the Summer, Warren finally came to visit her and they made up. Lorna apologized for hurting him. But it took a sharp right when Warren said he was leaving the country and leaving XFI in her hands.

She's been extremely busy since taking over, only resurfacing once or twice for various emergencies. She's being kept alive by the steady supply of caffeine Alex brings her.

From then Until Now

Lorna decided to step back from being the Boss Lady as she was becoming burnt out from the long hours. She focused her time on her mental health and nature. After a reset, she returned to school to get her Masters in Forensic Psychology. This degree would provide her with a better insight into people’s actions, and when she was ready to go back to XFI, she would have a new set of skills to help her in her PI. She graduated with her Master’s in 2024 but didn’t return immediately to XFI. Instead, she and Alex had renovated a van, stuck everything in storage, and went on the road with Magnus.
