After being seated, she waited for the maitre'd to leave before truly looking at the restaurant around them. "Lord, it really is lovely here." She couldn't think of any anniversaries or special occasions that would call for this sort of evening, but Terry also hadn't really thought about them much after they started the drive. "Are y'goin' t'give me a hint about what's brought us out tonight? No' that we need a reason, o'course." Instead, first, Kyle drank his water. "No reason for tonight, I guess, but not no reason?" Water was great, he took another drink. "I've planned this a lot. So much. Ter, you have no idea how many times. I am so glad you don't see how many times Marius has made fun of me. Including this weekend." He paused. "I was gonna do it this weekend, and then I couldn't be that much of a cliche. I couldn't. Valentine's Day is a ..." He fumbled a little, and went into his suit pocket and brought out the little pinecone, wrapped so carefully in white tissue paper shot through with gold. "You see me. I mean. You know me, and you've seen me at my worst, and you know me at my best, or the best I am right now, and you make sure I'm not running myself into the cracks, and you never hesitate to tell me I'm neglecting myself, but you also - you get why I do what I do, teaching and the institute work and the team." He nudged the little pinecone, fingers stiff with sheathed claw. "You tell me when I'm doing good work and you believe in what I'm doing and you give like, so much of your time to people, and you jump both feet right into caring for people and you make me a better person. That's really what it is, we make each other better people. We're a team. I mean, we're on the team but we're a team." "So. I wanted to make this us, and not because of the date, or a holiday and don't ask me how many times I had this pinecone in my pocket and ready to just ask, and couldn't make the words come out, and today felt right. So." He pulled on one delicate edge of the tissue paper, to show a glint of metal. "The first time we met, this pinecone was in my pocket and I couldn't tell you why I saved it then, but I've been saving it for years now, so that I could have it when I asked you to marry me." Getting down on one knee was not something a person rehearsed, except one billion times in their head. "Will you marry me?" Terry had been teasing, sort of, about why they'd gone out to such a posh restaurant, but then Kyle had started talking and her eyes had widened. They'd continued widening until she'd needed to blink and when he said he'd kept the pinecone for years so he could have it when he proposed -- tears welled up in her eyes as her hands covered her mouth. Then he'd asked and he was on one knee and he'd -- his claws were retracted and the way she loved him was just the same as breathing, natural and easy and so, so necessary. "Yes," she said, standing up from the chair she'd so recently sat down in. Reaching for his hand, Terry cupped his in her palms and stared at Kyle with bright, happy, teary eyes. "Yes, yes -- I'll marry you, y'wonderful tree of a man." Then she tugged on his hand until he stood. "I love y'so much." "Okay, but there's a ring on the pinecone." Kyle's voice came out quiet and a little rough, deep baritone with nervousness and emotion. "A really good one. I had help. I don't want to rip the paper though." He wiggled his fingers against Terry's hands. "I love you so much." Today in XProject: September 6 PHASE 2 2015: Laurie texts Kyle and asks him what kind of person she is. Gabriel texts to Wade if he can do something if he doesn’t even know. Jubilee texts Kurt and asks if he wants to meet her in Madrid in a week. Jubilee texts Kevin that she is sending something his way that he might find useful. Jubilee posts that Cairo is still hot and still filled with interesting people. Jessica posts that she is going out of town to be alone for awhile. Rahne meets Kyle, her "homeschooling" teacher, and finds him odd, but friendly. 2016: Maya makes a journal entry about the US government banning a Native American tribe from protesting on their own land. Jean makes a journal entry announcing she’s still alive and recounting recent shenanigans at the hospital where she works. Everett announces his presence on the journals, offering help with powers issues. 2017: Laurie texts Wade, Doug and Marie-Ange, asking them to meet her for a serious talk. 2018: Morningstar: Miles emails Warren in a panic because his school fees haven’t been paid. Angel lets everyone know she’s heading back to Seattle to protect her mother and that Sooraya is driving with her for company; Sooraya and Angel embark on their last road trip. Doug takes Topaz for her first appointment with Dr. Grim and they talk about Marie-Ange in the car. 2019: Marie-Ange shares a raven-themed comic strip. 2020: 2021: 2022: Operation: Apalachin: X-Force calls a meeting to discuss an impending meeting between the Maggia and they decide disruption is key going forward. April and Pyotr talk after his meeting with Felicia and dog therapy is applied. 2023: Rictor makes a journal post asking if he can borrow a car and if he can drive in New York with a Mexican license. 2024: Humanis Honoribus Amicis: Monica makes a journal post asking people to check out a petition regarding refusal to give mutants medical treatment. Dixie Dead Shake: Marius texts Rogue to inquire how her trip to New Orleans is going; The next day, Jean and Garrison learn some additional repercussions to their adventure; Marie-Ange texts Doug to say she lost the bet, and that Jubilee is still alive. Hank and Mel have one last swim at the lake before summer’s end. Arthur meets Sooraya in the stables, where he helps her settle her spooked horse, and neither helps settle the divide between them. Paige and Hank run into each other on the bus and have a conversation about chemistry. PHASE 1 2003: Sam returns to the school after a prolonged absence whilst receiving flight training and begins powers training with Haroun. 2004: Marie-Ange lashes out on her journal, accusing her friends of not trusting her and plotting behind her back, but instantly regrets it once people start talking sense to her. Alex wakes up in Scott’s room and they agree to a brotherly day out. Nathan offers an ear to Paige, who’s pummeling the new punching bag, and engages in a full duke-out with Haroun. Amanda answers some questions Kitty has about her roommates, and she then goes to Nathan to talk about everything that is happening. Jean-Paul makes Lorna aware of what she’s done to Alex, Alison tempers Terry’s apprehension about training with her father, and Shiro goes to see Samson for the first time. 2005: Upgrade: Doug beings work on the coding with Kitty for Haroun's new cyberware interfaces en route from New Orleans; Moira fetches equipment from Muir; Forge is frustrated. Scott and Jean talk wedding plans. Just One Drug: Amanda asks Marie-Ange about New Orleans and neither girl is happy with the lack of answers. X-Men Mission: Stalemate: Jake passes on information that he was the courier involved in the incident with Pete and that the HFC and Gideon Faraday both have an interest in a laboratory in Peru. 2006: Remy tells Sofia that if she puts in field time, he'll make sure everyone is on her couch. Angelo talks to Storm about joining the team. Bleeding: On the home front, Xavier gets a message from Marius' parents about how he's been missing; Marius has a bad run in with a 'date' when in surprise his skin hardens enough to cut her; later, Jennie comes to realize how long she's been away and that something is very, very wrong with her situation. 2007: Marie announces the creation of a new community for the grads - x_grads and Amanda is the first to use it. Shiro watches Equilibrium to get inspiration for his graphic novel and isn't impressed. Jean announces to the staff that Noriko is a) an electrokinetic, b) has very poor English and c) has a drug problem; it's decided visitors would be helpful and Noriko's presence is announced on the journals; Noriko meets Shiro and is grateful for another Japanese speaker, but less than impressed. Marie and Amanda have lunch and swap personal gossip. Zan Zar Zameen: Garrison is given a murder investigation in Afghanistan to investigate; Garrison recruits various loose ends at the mansion to be potential backup; Farouk convinces Sooraya to volunteer for Garrison's mission. Kyle cheers a despondent (and powers leaking) Laurie. 2008: Nathan is released from medlab. Angelo has a talk with Yvette after her apology. Marie-Ange is in a very mellow mood. Jubilee isn't coping with things and gets drunk; luckily her friends are there to look out for her. 2009: Haller posts about a formal BBQ to be conducted on the 8th September, Jean-Paul posts to the x-staff journal about adding Klara Prast into his sophomore Literature class. Atomic Angel: Nick goes to Jay to ask if he's noticed anything weird in Shiro's behaviour. Callie and Nick talk about classes, and discuss various teachers. Jan posts about a Labour day cookout. Victor talks to Jean-Paul about cooking lessons and baking a cake for Johnny's birthday. 2010: Jared wishes everyone a happy Labour Day holiday after a late shift at Harry's and ensuing discussion reveals people thought Jared was gay and flirty. 2011: Following the events in Hong Kong, Garrison finds himself with a new partner: Abigail Brand from SHIELD. Angel and Sam catch up, and she fills him in on what he's missed. 2012: Hope’s mother sends her an outfit (very pink) to wear to her first day of classes and a book on dressing well for when she’s married, as well as an embroidery for beginners kit and a note about how her grandmother was a gifted sewer. Layla drafts Sue to help her make a Presidential button for Matt. Megan announces she may have a job with eVolution, the mutant-friendly clothing place in District X. Layla recruits Megan for the button project. Sarah emails Vanessa about being more available for work as she’s not going to school this year; Sarah texts Layla about her apparent promotion from the talk with Vanessa. 2013: Clint emails Maddie about investing in a bunker against zombies. 2014: Angelica meets Julian in the city for breakfast, and to discuss the various New Mutants. Julian Keller and the Marques de McKenzie happen across each other at Saint Laurie Merchant Taylor. Suitable introductions are made and common ties are discussed. Julian visits the MedLab to treat some scratches received from a disgruntled Monkey Joe, and meets the new doctor. Rogue and Julian meet and discuss fictional journeys over homemade hot chocolate. Julian finds Callie studying as he ventures through the mansion. Julian bumps into Pixie while taking the air, they catch up and confront the dreaded boathouse to recover her masterpiece. Rogue posts about her first month back. Julian Keller returns to the mansion under less than perfect situations and is welcomed back by Charles.
