The other man's head cocked to the side only by a few degrees. "Now that we're finished, Clea the Faltine, I have spent the whole of this conversation with a question of my own." He gestured vaguely as to encompass the whole of her. "Why? Why do you work so hard to blend into a people not your own." Clea looked at him for a moment, "Because I don't know my own." She said simply and sighed, "I was a baby when I was brought to this dimension and adopted by my parents. I must have been barely a year old or so. From the records I can find, the Faltines are from a Hell Plane and are very secretive and rarely venture out of their own dimension. As for the Dark Dimension, I know that Dormammu came and took over, which led to a rebellion and the fall of those people. Even then the books I did find don't offer much. From what I saw, it was mostly in ruins. I don't even know if there are survivors that managed to make it this far." She paused again before saying, "I guess we are kindred spirits in a way. We both lost our homes." Tapping her notebook, "Maybe in my search for answers, I will find what I've been looking for." "Yet, you could know them." It was a blunt statement. "I would violate everything sacred under the sun to bring my people back. You hold the power to tear open the way to other dimensions – I have seen what human mages can do. Surely you are more. Even then, We have our own portal. There are ways." Clea looked at him in silence. No one ever mentioned that she could go to them for answers. She knew it would be dangerous to open a portal to the Dark Dimension, not without the risk of Dormammu finding out. Were those people, her people, alive? There was a possibility. All she did see were parts of the capital city and the castle, not the rest. "Isn't the portal unstable at the moment?" She came back to her senses. "Nothing great is guaranteed," Namor said. "You have been too molded by human masters. 'Unstable,'" and his voice pitched higher in mockery, "'Risky.' Those are words used to keep pawns in their place. If that is what you wish to be, so be it." Clea looked down at her notebook, her grimoire in the making, "They have been trying to mold many to be like them. It is why I haven't chosen that path. Despite the rocks, they keep sending." She sighed heavily, "Growing up in a world you thought you belonged in, only to have that reality ripped from underneath you. It makes you feel alone and naked. So, I have been grabbing at anything that will help that feeling lessen and hiding behind the bubble persona." Clea looked at Namor, "I don't know why I am telling you this. I don't want to be a pawn. Ever." Namor didn't even blink. "So you play spy. Do those masters have you stealing from the mountain for their own gains? It is not ignoble to be a pawn. There is a cost to making difficult choices, and those who are content to serve simply refuse to pay." "I play spy because I want to. And XF aren't masters, they pay my bills, so they are my bosses. That isn't a pawn, that is called being an employee. I am allowing my skills to be used and I can quit any time. As for stealing from the mountain, that was my idea." She looked at him for a moment. "Pawns don't get a choice in the matter. I am searching for who I am, and yes, there may be people out there that wish to put me under their thumb. But I can assure you I am too stubborn for that." She reached into her bag and pulled out a hundred dollar bill and placed it on the table. "If I wasn't, I would have joined the Winding Way the moment I received the first rock invitation. Maybe I am using them to fill up the void I feel, to satisfy my hunger for knowledge." Grabbing her grimoire off the table and placing it safely in her back. "Like I said, I don't ever want to be a pawn. Making them think I am - that is a different story." Today in XProject: January 6 - Cecilia Reyes' birthday PHASE 2 2016: Wade leaves Cecilia a birthday present; Cecilia emails Wade her thanks. 2017: 2018: Maya wonders why men are dumb. Quentin has a problem of a personal nature and does nothing to endear himself to his caretakers. Hope A emails Marie-Ange and Doug in disbelief over them signing her up for a Burlesque class. Charles posts letting people know he'll be moving semi-permanently to Muir Island. Miles discovers Topaz has animated Porg toys and tries to steal one for himself (she gives it to him in the end). Matt and Topaz go for late-night breakfast for dinner. 2019: 2020: 2021: Molly posts to Instagram from the queue for a new bakery. 2022: April helps out Maya in the gym and they chat. April follows her nose and finds Sooraya in the kitchen. 2023: After his attempts to enter the Chapel are unsuccessful, Pyotr emails the X-Men to update them on the situation. Megan announces that the vending machine has dropped drumsticks that come with their own dipping sauces, music, and... something else. Kyle informs the X-Men that April will be joining the team. Forge returns and his entrance into the Chapel seems to free the residents who had been unable to leave. Clint updates the mansion at large to what had happened. 2024: Behold A Pale Horse: Kevin S. sends a missive to both X-Men and X-Force that the Fête des Mutantes in France may be a target of the last Horseman, Death; Kevin S. later asks X-Force what their current resources are for the event and suggests having X-Men on standby for emergencies. Paige and Sharon S. meet for the first time. Stephen Strange asks Clea to meet up for lunch. Paige runs into Sooraya in the library. Alani, Clint, and Namor navigate JFK so they can get to their destination of research in Hawai’i. PHASE 1 2004: Shiro is flying with Marie and his skin turns black from over-exerting his powers. He asks Hank to help him. Betsy and Logan spar. x_kids is created by Kitty as a private community for the students, away from the adults. 2005: Jubilee and Madelyn go to San Francisco to visit the graves of Jubilee's parents. Nathan growls at Hank for flirting with Moira. Wanda growls at Nathan for over-training. Nathan and Cain discuss Shattered. Nathan is frustrated he can't go after Nathaniel Essex. Alison brings up restricting Amanda's healing with the medical staff, who agree. Romani Road Trip: Amanda meets Wanda in London and asks her to come with her to Germany to meet her birth family. 2006: Trinity: Nathan and Wanda pose as journalists and visit the mutant training centre, noting a few interesting discrepancies; Gideon Faraday visits Moira on Muir and reveals that he was involved with Mistra, apparently for the purpose of distracting her while one of her nurses steals the files from her secure database; Moira shoots Gideon before he escapes; Wanda and Nathan break into the training centre after hours and find a couple of nasty surprises in the files. Lorna and Scott discuss the team, Alex, and powers, but nothing is resolved. Kyle somehow gets it into his head that Alison might be a guy. 2007: Crystal asks Amanda about Kurt's healing, and the witch is surprisingly forthcoming. Domino comes to New York and goes to dinner with Angelo. Julio and Angel go on their first date. X-Men Mission: Phalanx: Cyclops, Cannonball and Nightcrawler have a briefing with the Greek admiral in charge of the mission; the X-Men undergo HALO training; the X-Men make the jump, and Jack emerges when Haller gets into difficulty; the soldiers are neutralised harmlessly, but Garrison has issues being partnered with Haller, who left him unshielded. 2008: Kevin emails Noriko to apologise again for not telling her about Jay; in return for her explaining some of her history, he gets her drunk. Operation: Shaboom: Doug is concerned by the disappearance of a journalist contact in New Mexico. Cain takes Kyle and Laurie to get Laurie's new pet pot-bellied pig; Yvette is confused by Laurie's wanting a pig as a pet. Wendigo: Garrison, Marie, Logan and Heather find the mounted detachment brutally killed and are attacked by the Wendigo, a cannibalistic native spirit; whilst Logan fights to protect Heather, Garrison finds Twoyoungmen and returns with him to the scene; Marie uses a spell from Twoyoungmen to make the Wendigo mortal and Logan kills it, but not without a cost as he descends too far into his feral nature. 2009: Jubilee declares the death of her latest houseplant. Adrienne emails Manuel looking for information on the Hellfire Club ahead of her invitation from Emma. Inez contrives to meet Julian and coffee is arranged. Nathan texts Jean-Paul. Marie-Ange warns Manuel to leave the mansion for a while after a premonition. Ktenology 101: Marie returns to the mansion and talks with Scott about killing and revenge. Lil and Jennie meet on the smoker's porch and discuss powers and tattoos. 2010: Kyle is enthused about Extreme Arm Wrestling and other sports on ESPN. Jubilee asks for help on her accents for cover identity purposes. Kyle posts about helping Julio pack to go back to Mexico to look after his ailing grandfather. 2011: Artie posts a doctored image of Kyle that he made. Jared talks about going to the local community college. Doug e-mails Artie a paypal receipt for $20 for the Kyle prank. Laurie posts to the X-team comm about her use of a traffic cone. The Best Deceptions: Molly wakes up to find the X-Men taking care of her; when Alice and Gene Hayes wake up later, there's a tense talk about who their rescuers are, Molly's manifestation and what happens next, with the final decision being for Molly to go to the school. 2012: Vanessa texts Garrison asking for him to keep her company. Jean-Paul invites Adrienne over for snacks and movies. Maddie's powers manifest, with Jean and Haller coming to her rescue. Wade asks about an incident involving someone screaming in his head and Jean explains Maddie manifested her telepathy; Haller posts to x_journal explaining the situation with Maddie, who is in the Box until she can learn some shielding; David emails Jean about forgetting to post about Maddie earlier; Layla brings down some things for Maddie and Jean reassures her that her roomie will be okay. Layla emails her teachers asking for an extension on her schoolwork due to powers-related exhaustion. 2013: Maddie posts about Les Miserables, one of its actors and her wanting to have kids with him through a surrogate mother. Auld Lang Syne: Charles posts about being careful what to tell Molly since she lost her memory. Jean runs into Logan at the airport and they talk briefly. Scott finds Logan at the mansion and the two have a peace offering beer and talk. 2014: Laurie asks Doug for a third date. 2015: Wade texts Logan to invite him to play darts in the boathouse. Sue texts Tandy about having a shopping weekend to celebrate Tandy’s college acceptance. Cecilia makes a journal entry about having a quiet birthday at the mansion.
